The number of albums selling over 100,000 units increases to 47 this week from 37 last week. This week last year, 61 albums had sold over 100,000 by week 8, so this year's tally is already 23% down. The top selling album as of week 8 in 2008 was SLEEP THROUGH THE STATIC by Jack Johnson, with sales of 659,930.

Current estimates suggest week 9's biggest debut (The Jonas Brothers' 3-D Concert Experience) will sell barely enough to make the top 50 on this list next week. Weeks 10 and 11 should be more interesting, with the release of the new albums from U2 and Kelly Clarkson respectively. Just for fun, why not post your prediction of where you think their albums will debut on this list.

Key: Albums in blue are 2009 releases, albums in green are catalog. If the sales number is in italics, it is an estimate.

47 - 100,297 - BLACK ICE - AC/DC

I thoght Black Ice would have held up stronger in 2009. 100K in 8 weeks icon_confused.gif

I was hoping it could catch Coldplay - they're at 183K so far in 2009 icon_eek.gif
Okay, they've just had some very good post-Grammy weeks, but they would be ahead of Accadacca anyways...

Metallica actually sold a few 1,000s more than AC/DC too, so far.

The sales of Taylor Swift are rally impressive ! icon_eek.gif
By contrast, the sales of Bruce Springsteen are very disappointing... I thought his total would be at least 600-650k after one month...

Actual sales to week 7 were 36,063 as the catalog chart was posted that week. My estimate to week 8 is 40,850.

The number of albums selling over 100,000 units increases to 49 this week from 47 last week. By week 9 last year, 67 albums had sold over 100,000, so this year's tally is already 27% down. The top selling album as of week 9 in 2008 was SLEEP THROUGH THE STATIC by Jack Johnson, with sales of 751,438.

Highest debut on the BB200 this week, Lamb Of God's Wrath just misses this list with sales of 68,079. The forecast highest debut this time last week was the Jonas Brothers' 3D Concert Experience, which failed to achieve anything like its initial estimated sales range of 80,000-100,000, coming in with less than 50,000. Next week's biggest debut will be U2's No Line On The Horizon, currently forecast in the sales range 400,000-450,000, which would put it comfortably in the top 5 on week 10's list.

Key: Albums in blue are 2009 releases, albums in green are catalog. If the sales number is in italics, it is an estimate.

Wasn't a huge box office success? Come on, of course it wasn't as big as The Dark Knight but nothing was that big last year. It was considered a hit, it outgrossed Hairspray and Dreamgirls, two recent musicals that were considered smashes.

It's because of the DVD's success. The movie wasn't a huge US Box Office success but the DVD sells.
Wasn't a huge box office success? Come on, of course it wasn't as big as The Dark Knight but nothing was that big last year. It was considered a hit, it outgrossed Hairspray and Dreamgirls, two recent musicals that were considered smashes.
If I'm not mistaken its US Box Office Gross was $140-150 million. It's a good number but not extraordinary. The movie was a bigger hit in Europe and the rest of the world.
