Moderator Notice ::

Please be aware of the following:

This forum is here to allow people to discuss music. It has not been created as a fansite to Mariah or any other artist and so please be aware that people may wish to share their opinions when they have negative thoughts on something. This is perfectly acceptable and we ask that everyone should either tolerate this, or alternatively seek a forum dedicated to their particular favourite artist so that they do not have to endure the fact that some people don't share their thoughts.

On the flip side, we would like to ask that discussion/comparison with other acts should be kept to a minimum where possible in this thread. This should not be here as a "Mariah is better than artist x" thread.

UK Mix is neither pro or anti any particular artist, we believe that all sorts of musical genres and artists have a place for discussion here, but due to the ongoing issues we have been faced with obsessive Beyonce fans we will now be removing anyone from the forum that personally insults our members, we do not want to see name calling, eye rolling or telling anyone to "shut up" or "get out of this thread". The forum is for anyone who can discuss music without causing trouble.

I will not continue to make these sort of warnings on a daily/weekly basis. We want all the sensible Mariah fans to enjoy this forum, so to make sure we don't have to lock any more of her threads, we have had to reach this decision.

Basically anyone that upsets the apple cart with regards to Mariah threads will now achieve a 7 day ban from the forum to cool down.

We hope that this will mean everyone can enjoy the forum much more.

I would also like to add that any comments/reference to the locking of these threads should continue to be sent via PM to a moderator and this thread should be use for the purpose in which it was set up.

Many thanks,
UK Mix Moderators

For admins: This topic will include the completed chart history of Mariah Carey (just like Celine Dion Completed Chart History). It will be about all her singles, albums and videos on charts around the world. It won't be just about a specific album, as these topics already exist.

Going through earlier Mariah Carey topics I've noticed that they are a mess. To find any useful information, you have to go through hundreds of pages, there are no summaries and I hope this topic will change it.

I would like to ask all of you to contribute, especially respected members like Nelson, who can share many interestings facts (despite his sense of humor ).

The most important things are peak positions and certifications (from official sources).

I will start to post informations by country. I hope you can fill in the missing informations or correct the mistakes.

Oh, and the U.S. charts/sales are the least desired, as they are well known and easy to find.

Missing informations:
1) Till March 1998 only Top50 Singles Chart is available. Can anyone provide informations outside Top50?

2) Many albums peaks are missing. I know that they can be found on the Mariahdaily.com, but although I think it's one of the most reliable Carey related websites, I don't know if they are correct.

3) Does anyone have peak positions for Carey videos? I think that The Adventures of Mimi was #7.

Have you guys tried her albums history and singles history page on MariahDaily.com? I bet there's some pretty useful stuff in there.

The site is good but has few mistakes and missing data. This thread will contain informations confirmed and 100% sure. That's why I'm not copying data form Mariahdaily.

TEOM IS GOLD in Germany. She was given the Award in October 2005, when she was given the award for having sold 7.000.000 copies of TEOM around the world. It's confirmed! the german ifpi site is useless, because they are missing sales/certification data for robbie, nelly furtado and other artists, too.

MTV Unplugged 30 - 37 WOC
Music Box 1 - 82 WOC - 29 Weeks on the Top 10
Merry Christmas 15 - 3 WOC

+ "VH1 Divas Live" was #39 and stood on the chart for 10 weeks. i also remember that "The Remixes" was #103

btw, Mariah-Charts.com is a very reliable source, i've been following that one since 2002 and the guy that manages the site only collects official info, not counting what he has for Brasil of course wich i contributed myself with some info and now i'm ashamed of it cuz i really don't believe that anymore

just found this in my archives for Mariah's singles history in Italy too:

Without You 1
Endless Love 9
All I Want for Christmas Is You 8
Fantasy 10
One Sweet Day 23
Honey 2
When You Believe 4
I Still Believe 14
Heartbreaker 8
Thank God I Found You 20
Against All Odds 17
Can't Take That Away 58
Loverboy 13
Never Too Far/Don't Stop 22
Through The Rain 7
I Know What You Want 4
It's Like That 7
We Belong Together 25
Get Your Number 22
Don't Forget About Us 11
Say Somethin' 32
Touch My Body 5

if there's any mistake, please someone let us know ;)

i had tons and tons of revised and official, serious info about here that i've collected since 2001, but i lost most of it when my computer crashed in 2006 and just recently i found some old .doc files from 2003 on a CD, but the info it's not as organized and "filtrated" as the files from 2006 were so i'll see what i can get of good out of thise and post here

BRASIL

Sales since June 2003 + ABPD Certification

Mariah Carey 18,100
Emotions 10,000
MTV Unplugged EP 41,000
Music Box 52,000 + 100,000 (Gold in 1994)
Merry Christmas 0
Daydream 5,600
Butterfly 8,000
#1's 61,000 + 100,000 (Gold in 1999)
Rainbow 4,500 + 250,000 (Platinum in 2000)
Glitter 5,000
Greatest Hits 10,000 + 125,000 (Platinum in 2002)
Charmbracelet 500 + 50,000 (Gold in 2003)
The Remixes 30,140
The Emancipation Of Mimi 68,500 (Gold in 2005)
E=MC² 23,000
The Ballads 37,000

Around The World (DVD/VCD) 42,600 + 25,000 (Gold in 2002)
#1's (DVD/VCD) 62,300
Fantasy: Live At Madison Square Garden (DVD) 11,500
MTV Unplugged (DVD) 8,000
The Adventures Of Mimi (DVD/Blu-Ray) 46,500 (Platinum in 2008)
Live In Concert 30,000

Touch My Body (Promo) 500

She's VERY under-certified here! Ones and MB are easily over Platinum (250k), while all her other albums up to Glitter could be at least Gold. "The Ballads" is also due a Gold certification, since now the level has been diminished to 30k (it was 100k until 2000 and 50k from 2001 'til 2005)

a few considerations:

FRANCE

Honey 39 (not 29)

Mariah Carey DNC - not certified, tough it's sales are over 100k
Emotions DNC
MTV Unplugged 22
Music Box 1 (4)
Merry Christmas 44
Daydream 2

i also found these singles sales here, don't remember from where i got them but they doesn't seem too far off, just for ABMB/Honey/BFly they seem a little bit exagerated, or maybe they really sold that with a nice longevity outside the Top 50 - usually, her singles have a nice longevity in France despite lower peaks

Hero 163,000
Endless Love 73,000
Fantasy 162,000
One Sweet Day 200,200
Always Be My Baby 37,000
Honey 48,500
Butterfly 42,500
My All 196,000
Heartbreaker 293,000

many of her albums sales are well over the amount they were certified for - MB is over 1.2M, DD and Ones are over 650k, Rainbow is nearly 500k, GH and TEOM nearly 200k and CB around 250-300k.

altough there were a Top 100 Singles prior to 1998, i had never seen those charts and neither the position for her singles that peaked outside the Top 50

the album peaks are all there now! Ones and GH never charted because they went into the Compilations chart, and they were #2 and #12 respectively (tough i remember readin that GH was #24 on a comprehensive chart)

i have a few old video charts here where i think Ones and ATW appeared, but i can't search them now =/ and yes, TAOM was #7 but fell down the chart quickly

AUSTRIA

the album chart was only a Top 30 back in 1990, so "Mariah Carey" never charted. same goes for singles - that's all you can get since the chart only became a Top 75 in 2001 if i remember correctly.

JAPAN

AIWFCIY was also certified Million for Mastertones and Gold (100k) for PC Downloads

"MTV Unplugged" is at least Platinum, and i forgot now when the certification levels changed lol but MTV, Glitter, GH and CB all shipped nearly/over 500k; TEOM is around 300k shipped, E=MC² 170k. The last numbers we got from Sony, many years ago, were 1.6M for BFly, 2.3M for MB, 2.5M for DD, 2.8M for Merry, 3.6M for Ones

GERMANY

Don't Forget About Us 41
Say Somethin' 63

TEOM was really certified Gold, she received the award on a promotional trip in november of 2005, just before the re-release. Germany it's another country where her albums sold way more than for what they are certified - or not certified, in this case. MTV's sales are well over the Gold mark, BFly should be Gold, or at least really close to that. I also remember reading figures directly from Universal, for shipments, where it stated that CB was a lil' over 100k by the beginning of 2003, in shipments.

EUROPE

oh, those are a pain in the ass  i have never seen much more than what you already posted, except that TGIFY, AAO, TTR and Boy entered, with TTR going Top 10 - actually, some info there is new to me, thanks!

also, i'm afraid that GH's peak is really #32, since the album had really bad peaks all around Europe in it's original release, having a great "second life" when TEOM was released - and eventually hitting the Top 10 in the UK.

i know it's certifications, but just for the record - CB is on 700-800k at least in Europe; Glitter 400-500k and E=MC² 300k. Once again, many other albums are well over their certified sales - DD and Ones sold at least 800k more than their certification, Rainbow and Merry are 600k above and BFly 500k. Her only under-certified record is "Greatest Hits" wich sold at least 1.2M in Europe, since awards are only made for albums released since 1994. MB is on 7.8M while her first 3 albums are around 1.3M each.

now i'll build some more chart history for other countries :D

NETHERLANDS

My fave country for her chart info because of the appearance of some "rare" singles (IIO, Forever, CTTA, The Roof) and, of course - it's one of her most succesful markets in Europe, or was...

TEOM, CB and maybe even GH certainly sold enough to go Gold, while DD and BFly (or even Rainbow) are probably under-certified.

her sales are way over the certifications - first album should be 5x, Emotions 2x, MTV 3x and MB is over the million mark. Rainbow and Ones also seem pretty undercertified, CB could be Gold too and TEOM should be at least 2x Platinum

i'm also not sure about the singles certifications prior to 1997, i had the feeling that there were more singles certified, like Emotions, IBT, LTT and AIWFCIY.

i put an "?" for The Ballads, IIO, Forever and AAO cuz i know they were all released in Australia, but i haven't got a peak for them - i know TB was Top 100, but the singles may not have charted.

at least since 2003, none of her home videos were certified and i doubt any of them were certified previously

Sony Music Australia said in 2003 (when "The Remixes" was released) that Mariah had sold over 3M copies of her albums in Oceania, wich helps proving that even if she doesn't have the certifications i posted for her earlier albums, she at least sold very near that amount!

that's it for today, it's 2:38 am here and i'm pretty tired, took me quite some time to gather these infos, i'll post more tomorrow ;)

maybe you would like to take a look at Gui's (MJDangerous) estimations, he did one of the best comprehensive reports for Mariah on the net imo, great information, very down to earth and totally nothing like those lunatic lambs, even cuz he's totally not a fan of Mariah

Thanks!
Tell me please, where did you get the peak position for Merry Christmas? I couldn't find it anywhere (not even on Mariah-Charts.com).

These are the peaks from Mariahdaily.com. I hope they are ok.

And album Mariah Carey was never certified in France. I'm 100% sure.

"MTV Unplugged" is at least Platinum
Is there any chance to get all her official certifications in Japan? MTV Unplugged can be gold and be undercertified.
