Gustavo actually is a pretty artist-neutral fan. He likes Madonna but also has many others he's a big fan of. I don't think he was slamming Madonna because he's presented himself as a fan many times, he's just not fond of the MDNA material.

And lol to any Madonna fan criticizing other artists for changing styles to remain relevant... isn´t she praised for the exact same reason? :roll:

Has there ever been another album selling so well as a catalog title solely on the back of a smash album the way 19 has? Even Michael Jackson never saw quite this level of consistent back-catalog success during Thriller that 19 has done ever since 21 hit shelves.

Not in modern times... what about the Beatles, Elvis or Rolling Stones in the 60s? Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd or Eagles in the 70s?

Judging from chart records, not even in those cases have we ever saw something like this in being a top 10/20/40 album for over a year just as a catalog title. In comparison, "Off The Wall" made it to #44 in March 1984 when logging 85 additional weeks between 83-84 as a result of Thriller-mania, 19's never even been that low since 21 hit.

Nope. Katy's 35k was in line with the original industry estimation of 39k.

I said "leaked" because I haven´t heard the entire album, just the tracks that leaked days before.

It´s a personal opinion, but it seems to be shared with a lot of people (since her singles have failed miserably this time around despite colossal promo). The vocals are awful, the lyrics would fit for a teenager not a 53 year old woman, and the lead single is completely tuneless. No wonder even with a Superbowl performance watched by +100 million, young superstar collabs, and a Clear Channel payola deal, the song couldn even become moderately sucessful. It might not even go gold, which is pathetic for today´s market.

Of course the album was going to be #1... she has a solid fanbase that will blind buy the album, in different versions (deluxe, regular edition, etc) but after that it´s over... 60k on the 2nd week and out of the top 10 in no-time! I could be wrong but I don´t see this album outselling Hard Candy at all.

Madonna fans are thrilled with the album. They like it much better than Hard Candy.

Yes, GMAYL bombed. We all know this. The song sucked.

I think in M's fan circles, the response to GMAYL was tepid at best. The fans like the album.

The problem is that critics want ROL II and this is a cheesy fun pop album with a couple "serious" songs.

Rihanna's GGGB sold 63k in the week of the re-release's release... Both have similiar totals, mainly sell singles and have a similiar media presence, so 35k falls off to that...

Not to forget that the respectively new single of both reached No. 1 for exactly one week (Take A Bow/Part Of Me)...

I really don't see the point in rereleasing a 18/19 month old album.

Official point: Have a possibility for fans to have an enlarged era/expansion of their colletion/give people a reason to buy the album who had doubts before

Inofficial point: To make more money, to raise album sales (mainly when a label thinks an album hasn't reached its potential and you can still exploit the project)...

It's just a shameless way to make larger album sales for albums that did average.
