I disdain Idol and the ilk with a passion, but I do think it's sad that these artists are abandoned and dropped with numbers both new artists would be considered success stories with. Most first album after Idol stories are considered crap. Usually its the second album where the artist actually gets more of a shot to actually bring themselves to the forefront whereas the debut album is basically a faceless product with lots of hired songwriters and producers. Kelly's debut album was nothing compared to the success of her second, even Adam (which is falling fast)'s second album is getting stronger reviews because this album is more what people expected from him compared to the Pink/Katy Perry knockoffs that were all over his debut.Nackar wrote:^ There is a huge difference between an indie rock band being signed and expected to sell maybe 50k with their first album, that then sell 25k, but after five albums suddenly hit it big on one hand, and a majorly hyped talent-show winner (let alone third place!) that gets offered a contract on a one-off chance. These are expected to PROVIDE and QUICKLY.
If she can't do so satisfactory, it wouldn't be weird for the label to drop her.
I'm not saying that's what WILL happen nor am I saying that has to be the case here, but talent show contestants that get signed are surely expected to perform well right from the start (especially as many tend to drop off in popularity after their first album).

could she top Billboard ? I suppose Mayer will do 60-85, Adele too.NorfolkScot wrote:Will be interesting to see Rebecca Ferguson's sales......

What's so special about it?nickf1 wrote:And WOW at Foster The People 1 year in the chart with Torches and still selling around top 100
and Pink Floyd still charts from time to time and is over 800 weeks on the billboard 200 now that indeed deserves several WOWsTimmy94 wrote:What's so special about it?nickf1 wrote:And WOW at Foster The People 1 year in the chart with Torches and still selling around top 100
Jason Aldean's My Kinda Party is still in the top 30 18 months after the release - that is worth a WOW.
Is she even known in the US? Leona Lewis's album had a huge hit, Susan Boyle's album had a holiday appeal.NorfolkScot wrote:I would love her tooooo, but I don't think she could. I don't know, how you describe "did okay" but the album was a success with over 500k sold vying for 600k and 2x Platinum.
Her UK success has nothing to do with the US one. We will see how far she can go in the USA, but with some promotion etc she can sell much.
Will any of them crack the Top 10, I'm not sure....thebigham wrote:New albums out today:

Seriously, DSOTM is incredible. It literally *never* stops selling, especially in the US.fearlesswift13 wrote:and Pink Floyd still charts from time to time and is over 800 weeks on the billboard 200 now that indeed deserves several WOWsTimmy94 wrote:What's so special about it?nickf1 wrote:And WOW at Foster The People 1 year in the chart with Torches and still selling around top 100

No idea who is that Jason, I have just put my feelings about Foster's album (which is one of the best albums ever recorded IMO) and i'm so glad that they are still selling after one year being in the chart and with only 1 hit single.Timmy94 wrote:What's so special about it?nickf1 wrote:And WOW at Foster The People 1 year in the chart with Torches and still selling around top 100
