You're flooding the topic with sh*t... this is not a POPULARITY contest, and anyway it would be impossible to judge who is more popular. Arguably there are at least a dozen boy bands\girl acts\etc that are WAY more popular than Frank Ocean, but that's not the point here...

I agree he is one of the most interesting musicians on the modern R&B scene, but the most popular of them ALL? In every genre? How do you even calculate that?

he's not the most talented, it's just all the hype he's getting due to his recent coming out that's prompting people to praise him...

Yeah, I agree with you. Nobody on this forum didn't give a damn about him before his coming out, now he suddenly became so popular here.. :-?
I know him for 2 years, never been a fan. I prefer Tyler, the Creator to him.

I haven't paid attention to him but the hype of his "coming out" proved to be a helpful marketing strategy. I doubt he would be discussed here if it weren't for that, not that he isn't supposed to come out at a time he wanted to, but the timing really helped him establish a presence.

Please return to the topic of this thread and if you really want to discuss whether Frank's 'coming out' had any impact on his sales or whatnot, please do it in a polite and respectful way.

I don't care about his personal life, he's just an amazing singer...his new album got a 9.5/10 on pitchfork, only two albums had a perfect 10 in the last 12 years: Kid A by The Radiohead and MBDTF by Kanye West...

Nuff said.

HITS for next week's chart:

LIFE IS GOOD FOR NAS

Def Jam/IDJ Rapper Should Debut at #1 with 115-125k

July 18, 2012

Nas’ new Def Jam/IDJ album, Life is Good, is his 10th in an impressive career dating back to ‘94’s now iconic Illmatic. It should debut at #1 on next week’s HITS Album sales chart with between 115-125k in sales, according to one-day sales figures provided by those music retailers who are still creating jobs, according to President Obama.

The quintessential N.Y. rapper’s last album, Untitled, debuted in July four years ago with 187k in first-week sales.

Razor & Tie’s latest edition of the Kidz Bop Kidz franchise is the 22nd in the long-running series since it launched in 2001, and has proven a big money-maker for the indie. This latest in what has become a cottage industry should do between 60-65k, which is even better than the last one. Eight of the titles in the franchise have gone gold.

Fearless Records San Diego-based punk rock band Pierce the Veil, formed by brothers Vic and Mike Fuentes, has previously released a pair of studio albums. Their third, Collide with the Sky, should do in the neighborhood of 25-30k its first week.

WaterTower’s Hans Zimmer soundtrack for Dark Knight Rises look to do between 20-25k, while Fallen Sparks/RED’s Matisyahu and Eleven Seven’s Hellyeah—a metal supergroup featuring Mudvayne’s Chad Gray and Greg Tribbett with members of Damageplan and Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul—should both do in the 14-17k range.
