Ex Suga Keisha's sweet music
By Dean Piper on June 20, 2010 12:03 AM in My Sunday Mirror Column

Keisha Buchanan is back on the showbiz scene with her first solo stuff since she left the Sugababes last September.

And from the sounds of it her new material has been coming along nicely - she's even producing some of the tracks.

Speaking at the launch of the new Sony NEX-5 camera she told me: "A lot of the tracks are very tough and are about finding myself as a person. It's about strength and being a survivor.

"I think a lot of people are going to be very surprised. It's great to know there's such a positive vibe and people are really excited to hear the tracks.

"The record label has just left me to my own devices and they've got real trust in me."

And what of the Sugababes split row? She reveals: "People may read things into the tracks when they come out but they are not about one specific person or The Sugababes. I wish them all the best."

Somehow I doubt she really means that!

I can't wait either, something tells me its gonna be a great album. Vocally she was improving with each album, I was listening to Mutya's album the other day and although it's not amazing vocally she really stepped up on some songs and I think Keisha will be the same.

Although I never warmed to her in the Sugababes I'm really anticipating Keisha's solo album.
And what of the Sugababes split row? She reveals: "People may read things into the tracks when they come out but they are not about one specific person or The Sugababes. I wish them all the best."
I'm glad she hasn't gone straight to the "I got kicked out of my own group" line of promo... yet and it surprises me that she's been this diplomatic when she's always been one to speak her mind.
In retrospect maybe the push out was a push foward to something she's always wanted but was afreaid to do.
Oh and btw Mutya's biggest mistake was not releasing "Wonderful", lol
Happy endings are just stories that haven't finished yet...

That Mutya song was one of the songs I had in mind whilst writing my post, Loved it, though I did prefere the demo version. And yeah Keisha is being quite mature about this whole thing.

Yes, I deleted it because (a) that sort of language is not appropriate (b) it appeared to be trolling and (c) you quoted pictures, which is also a problem in this forum in particular (see the rules thread). Your account will remain active, of course.

i really look forward to this record, she was undoubtedly the best of any Sugababes members, now it's about time she released a very good solo and had a last laugh 8-) 8-) 8-) she must not end up as Mutya in terms of success, she should move to more r'n'b sound, something ala Alex Burke

Oh she better not sound like Alex, her material doesn't match her talent in my opinion. Keisha is much more credible than her so hope she does pop/r n b but with that edge she once had.

Can we please move this thread to the Pop forum?

Keisha recently tweeted that she's slowly becoming a fan of Laurel Collective (a six piece indie London band). One of the members from the band stated on their blog that they'd be open to the idea of collaborating with the ex-Sugababe.

Now the band has reached out to Keisha.

@keisha_buchanan Hey Keisha thats really sweet of you to mention us! thnks ;) hey we have something we'd like to ask you (secret). email? X
I'm really hoping that they work together because it's something that people wouldn't expect.

Does anyone else think it'd be a huge selling point if Keisha could convince Mutya and Siobahan to feature on an album track?
It'd be a definate way to insure Sugababes 1.0 fans would AT LEAST buy that track.
If Shiv and Mutya were smart they could have singles/album ready to go at the same time and catch the run off but I'm just not sure how well these three are actually getting on these days.
I know Mutya and Siobahan are back on speaking terms right?
The fly in the ointment would be Keisha.

Ooh I like the sound of them! That would be a great idea! I hope she gets accepted as a credible artist, I think if she'd have gone solo when Mutya did there would be no problem but the Babes went alot more commercial on the last few albums. But yeah I think she could be very diverse.

I find it hilarious that this girl was part of a massive POP group but her album threads end up in the R&B thread!!! Is it cause she's black?

I'm looking forward to her album. She sounds ever so sweet on the Jay Sean duet!!!

I don't think credibility will be an issue for Keisha because the amount of press that suggested that the legacy of the group were no more. Also, many people think that the group's sales dried up once she left.

Keisha did say a couple of months ago that she wanted to work with unsigned and relatively unknown people for her debut. Glad that the album seems to be heading in a British direction as oppose to Sour 7.
