I don't think it'll affect her that much. Jenny Lo had "Loubuitins" (or however that's spelled) and she managed to come back with "On The Floor".

In case you missed it, the album isn't coming until March at the earliest so Triumphant's success or failure will be well forgotten by then.

I really think we are underestimating the influence of the American entertainment media here. They will use the failure of Triumphant as a cloud over Mariah's head. They will say that she only called Triumphant a buzz single because it flopped. They will probably go so far as to say she pushed back the release of the album because of Triunphant.

No matter how factually incorrect they may be, they will definitely push this notion and the music-buying public will believe it.

I honestly think that the U.S. entertainment media have been slowly but surely becoming antagonistic towards her. Maybe it will change after her debut on AI.

But Baditude is right. When Triumphant dropped, EVERYONE thought this was her comeback single and first single from the album. That's how it was sold to the media. It was expected the album would come out around November, as happened with Memoirs.

I don't know how she'll deal with this single underperforming. Will she try some pop/dance elements (considering the positive reactions to the remixes) or do those kind of r&b/hip-hop songs on the album?

What she's doing right now is like saying, "Okay, I already have a new single out, please buy it" and then after a few days say, "Oh, it's not yet my real single, just wait for my album 6 months later, when I get the exposure from Idol which I'm going to be in and where all promo leads to".

That never happened in any Mariah era at all!

She just wanted this song released to obviously keep the fans occupied until the actual album singles, she released it on iTunes everywhere at the same time after a few days so her fans could have it. They just wanted to get her name back out there after two years.

Mariah (and her team) treated the song as a real single, and gave it full single treatment (video, promo, remixes etc..).

If Triumphant suddenly became a hit, I doubt they would be calling it an advanced single.

It's such a cop-out.

If they were unsure about the single, they should have just given the song as gift to the fans, and stated it as such.

A March release is perfect! She's doing dance on the new album I can tell. Randy told Billboard that these three versions are a taste of what's to come. She's going to conform. But it will be epic conformity.

I'm just wondering if the JD/BMC songs will sound ultra dated by March.

More importantly, will they even make the final cut of the album? March is a longgggggggggggggggggggg way from now, and she will and SHOULD HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO WORK WITH OTHER PEOPLE. Like it or not, they're blaming this on her sound with those 2. Not to mention the fact, no matter how much Mariah has her hand in the whole song process, new people can only help bring out "uncharted territory" in her. While i'll still stan for "Triumphant", I also stand by the fact that she can't keep running to the same people album after album. Because, frankly, they aren't helping her at all, in the bigger picture.

Full single treatment isn't the issue. She should never have labeled it lead single and let people think that the album would follow a few months after.

If it had been a hit, then they could've easily build on it, even if they called it buzz/advance/for-the-fans/out-of-the-blue single from the start.
The other way around - it flops so they re-label it advance - is so messy.
