First up is the Notorious B.I.G. Before his death he produced two albums, both classics. Ready to Die and Life After Death, both aptly named.

Ready to Die

Image

Ready to Die produced the singles Juicy #27, Big Poppa #7, and One More Chance #2. It has been certified 4 times platinum by the RIAA.

Life After Death

Image

Life After Death was two discs, released 3 weeks after his death. It produced the #1s Hypnotize and Mo Money Mo Problems, and the Top 30 hit Sky's the Limit. It has been certified diamond by the RIAA.

List which album you think is better. The album with most votes wins.

I did... and it was mostly to avoid confusion with the survivors.

I vote for Life After Death too, his most classic songs are on there. Looking forward to what other artists will be featured!

Ok after such great turnout Life After Death win 3-0. The first theme is going to be Urban music (Rap/Hip-Hop/R&B/Soul). Next up is Beyonce.

Dangerously in Love

Image

Released in 2003, this was Beyonces first solo album during Destinys Child hiatus, with the main subject matter being love. It won 5 Grammy awards in 2004. It includes #1 singles Crazy in Love and Baby Boy as well as Top 5 singles Me, Myself, and I and Naughty Girl. It has been certified 4 times Platinum by the RIAA.

B'Day

Image

Released in 2006 on her birthday, this album explores the themes of female empowerment. After the success of the first single Deja Vu #4, Ring the Alarm peaked at a dissapointing #11. After Irreplacable's monster success (10 weeks at #1) the album was revitalized. On the rerelease, Beyonce recorded Beautiful Liar with Shakira which peaked at #3 on the charts. It has been certified 3 times Platinum by the RIAA.

I Am...Sasha Fierce

Image

Released in 2008, half by Beyonce and half by her alter-ego Sasha Fierce. It won 5 Grammy Awards earlier this year. It includes the #1 hit Singles Ladies (Put a Ring On It) and the #3 If I Were A Boy, released as dual lead singles. Later hits that followed include Halo #5 and Sweet Dreams #10. It has been certified 3 times Platinum by the RIAA.

Rate each of these albums out of 10 points. The album with the most points wins.

Dangerously In Love 6/10
HOT singles, a few very good tracks, the rest filler.

B'Day 7/10
Love this album. Deja Vu is still banging, I love the bridge in Get Me Bodied, Irreplaceable is super catchy. Upgrade U makes me smile for some reason , Resentment is criminally underrated. The rest are decent.

I Am... Sasha Fierce 8/10
Her best album to date. Bee successfully transitioned to a poppier sound and made some of her biggest tunes. My favorites are Scared Of Lonely, Disappear, Poison, Slow Love, Broken Hearted Girl, Sweet Dreams, Hello. Her voice is at its best on this album IMO.
If you don't get on the ride, you won't experience the adventure...

Dangerously In Love - 7.5/10
For a debut album it was quite good, although someone who has been in the industry as long as Beyonce could do better. It's solid, but not much really outstanding.

B'Day - 6.5/10 (for the original version)
I found this an extremely unbalanced album. I didn't like how she put all the upbeat material first, then all the slower tracks at the end, since I felt it could have been spread out better. The ballads were great, but the rest of the material was patchy.

I Am...Sasha Fierce - 8/10 (for the original, deluxe edition, as this is the one I've heard)
Although this has a similar set-up to B'Day in that all the material of the same style/tempo is placed together, I found the material overall was stronger (barring a couple of tracks). The lyrics overall were more mature, especially on the ballads and Beyonce does not tend to over-sing as much.

DIL - 5 (alot of filler but some stand out tracks)
BDay - 6.5 (agree with fire angel's review...plus even some of the good tracks sound like borrowed sounds of other artists.....)
IASF - 9.5 (loved this album and like/love just about every song on both sides...except SL and SD on the 2nd Disc)

For people who rated by half a point I'm rounding it up so its easier to tally. In the future rate by full points.

My votes are:

DIL - 7
BD - 9 (for the rerelease)
IASF - 10 (for the deluxe edition)

Beyonce isn't very good as an albums artist.

Dangerously In Love - 7/10
B'Day - 8/10
IASF - 8/10

While she has strong tracks, her albums as a whole are not very fun to listen to.

Dangerous In Love 6/10
Great singles but too many fillers

B'Day 8/10
A really fun record! I loved so many songs from this album like Deja Vu, Ring The Alarm, Irreplaceable, Listen, Get Me Bodied, Beautiful Liar, Freakum Dress, Flaws And All.

I Am... Sasha Fierce = 9/10
In my opinion her best album to date. I love almost every track on it and i believe that it's her best work yet! All the singles (minus Ego) were brilliant and there was still single material left on the album, like Scared Of Lonely, Radio and Hello!
Rest In Peace Lilly!
