Timmy94 wrote:Too bad that those 60s/70s records are so hard to break. It would've been great to see 21 breaking some of those records of albums charting for half an eternity in the top 10. I mean they also reached it somehow - for sure hit albums were released every few months and so they had no real competition, but this must be also possible nowadays  .
Those albums have really moderate sales for having spent decades in the top 10 so shows that sales were relatively low at that time - similiar to today (well, they are propably still higher now than few decades ago).
I don't think it's possible for an album to ever spend as long inside the top 10 as the old school soundtracks like South Pacific, Sound of Music etc.

The article actually slightly understated Adele's achievement - it's not just the longest consecutive run by a female soloist, but by a soloist of either gender (I think Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield previously held the record).
Counting down the days until 21 outsells Morning Glory in the UK.

Seriously this is beyond annoying now!
Now you know how Bruce Springsteen must've felt a little bit less than 3 decades ago  . Though there's a difference as his album stayed No. 2 in 2 runs, while 21 returned every now and then to No. 2, so had way more runs at No. 2...
Born in the USA spent 21 out of its 24 weeks at no 2 behind Prince's Purple Rain, another blockbuster from an all-time legend. Adele has been denied time and again by different artists (many of whom have one big week then drop off dramatically). It's really frustrating.

I think both ways are quite frustrating: Either staying months behind one and the same album or behind albums which just sell more in one particular week and then drop hugely!

I'm sure she will anyway if/when she releases new singles. Lana del Rey might too. But I do wonder if we're over-estimating the impact these big performances will have. Even with a Jubilee bounce, album sales this week have been really disappointing - all that hype around someone like Jessie J, for example, and she still sells barely 11k. Same goes for Kylie.

As for the American charts, it's Lionel Ritchie all over again

I can't believe Rumour Has It is decreasing, as I constantly hear it on the radio on different channels all the time.

Emeli will take over Adele. If Adele does perform at the Oylympics that will be a boost not just UK, but WW. There is not much dif between albums 3 and 16 sales wise.

She's got to make that number 1. IMO, this is the last time she could make #1 on the US charts. Cause Usher should take the next 3 weeks at #1.

Not to raise the tension but you should have mentioned that Alan Jackson is at 47,700+.

This is going to be very, very close.

Can't go by the 1st count, because you don't know what stores have been counted and so on. Things can change bt a vast number on the final count.
