This just goes to show, a small bit of promo can have a decent effect on sales.

And once again......assuming this is kept up at the weekend (no reason why it shouldn't be), she will get her 73rd week in the UK Top Ten, thus finally beating the pesky Amy and Gaga for longest-running top ten album by a female.

"21" needs to reach 75 weeks in the UK Top Ten to become the longest-runner ever by a UK soloist (Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells spent 74 weeks).

After that there is only one solo album with longer in the Top Ten - but I won't mention "that" album just yet.
Amy's album's great, but that Gaga!!!! It's another singer the world could do without.

^ LOL...

when I said "pesky" I was just referring to the fact that they had annoyingly held that record (and via a number of re-releases in both cases), thus denying Adele her rightful place on top.

I wasn't commenting on how good their music was.

The full list on who will be performing at the Olympics Closing is now out, and like some have said - no Adele. No surprise there.

Sadly inevitable. It was never going to happen anyway - and certainly not if she's due to give birth just a few days later :D.

Here's an article from USA Today about 21's scanned sales. As we've said, Billboard predicts she'll pass 10 million "before the end of the year":

I wonder if 21 will be the last album (by which I mean, the most recently released album - I know other older albums can eventually scrape their way there) ever to reach 10m in the US? :o

I give it a BIG no... I'm sure there'll come another surprisingly blockbuster again.
Call me a freak but I even think that one day an album is released that will manage to outsell Thriller - yes :o .

I agree that an album could sell 10m in the US again, but it will be many years before that happens - and the market will need to have morphed into something different from what it is today.

As for outselling Thriller (I assume you mean worldwide?), the problem with that is the lack of accuracy with worldwide sales. Even if another huge album does come along, it will only be in certain countries that we can measure its sales accurately. And no doubt by that point MJ stans/his record company will claim (without proof) that Thriller has now sold 150m copies or something stupid like that.

Remember there was a topic back then in ukmix named "Do you think there will be another 5 Million seller in US again, if who?"

you can never know when blockbuster albums will come, no one thought Adele would brake so many records with 21... yet she did!

Canada

British soul singer Adele remained on the chart for the 73rd week, with her sophomore “21” landing at No. 7.

Agreed! Back then, thought Amy would be the last 10 million+ seller worldwide, but then came along Gaga and Adele. Anything is possible.
