It seems like Monica and her team think that balladry is her strength. She flopped with "All Eyez on Me" and "Too Hood" (both uptempos) in 2002 and then released "So Gone", which was a ballad in 2003 to moderate success, and in 2006, she released "Everytime tha Beat Drop" (an uptempo) which flopped so bad. "Everything to Me" was released in 2010 making a huge comeback for her, and now, with New Life, she did it again with so much ballads, but failed. She needs a new formula!

Wasn't it more than a moderate success? Didn't it reach #1 on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs & top 10 on the Hot 100? :)

Oh yeah, it was a big hit! I was thinking of "Should've Known Better" while writing it. "So Gone" reached #10 in Billboard Hot 100 also! :) :P

Well looking at the chart data (#6 R&B/Hip-Hop & #19 Hot 100) "Should've Known Better" was a pretty big hit too to me, but different opinions about that i guess

I highly doubt that, I think she will take a longer break though.

Absolutely not which is why she isn't stressing the numbers. Her and her label made an agreement on how many records would be sold and if she chose 150k or less then she is perfectly fine. Me and a few other members talked with her a few weeks ago and trust me she is fine.

I don't think she will get dropped if Clyde Davis and Larry Jackson still have any influence she won't get dropped, but Monica needs to experience different producers, and not the dream, and she needs a fresher sound! Some of this material sounds like it could be ss rejects! I would to see her experiment with live instruments!

What are her thoughts about the sales?

She needs a Best Of and then a new studio album!!!
I'm afraid she might get dropped! 150k for an established artists is quite bad actually... Just saying!

Monica may not be a legend but she's a veteran. For her to be dropped, Monica would really need to flop hard.

Plus, R&B is crashing and burning right now so labels who back R&B artists are probably much more understanding and lenient...

It was something like 201-205 last week, so the 'out' isn't as bad as it seems.

Good idea. She has enough material for a solid Greatest Hits.

1. Don't Take It Personal
2. Like That and Like That
3. Before You Walk Out Of My Life
4. For You I Will
5. The Boy is Mine
6. The First Night
7. Angel of Mine
8. All Eyez on Me
9. So Gone
10. Knock Knock
11. U Should've Known Better
12. Everytime tha Beat Drop
13. Everything To Me
14. Love All Over Me
15. Anything (To Find You)
16. It All Belongs To Me

Plus maybe 2 new songs. It would reconnect her to her urban fanbase at least.

I don't think a greatest hits is what she needs to make another comeback

I don't think a greatest hit album isn't a bad idea with some new tracks.

Granted that I was one of the only people that enjoyed this album, there is nothing that screams "release me as a single".

She needs a greatest hits, her Super Hits compilation is a mess! They put in most of the album tracks and like what, 4 singles?! What the hell was that?!

Yeah a greatest hit would sell less than 100k at this point in her carreer! She needs a bigger album, before she releases a greatest hits!

She killed "I Love The Lord". Had me rethink about how amazing a vocalist she really is.

Would love to hear her do her own gospel song.

I think she needs some kind of reinvention as far as the music goes.

After The Storm
The Makings Of Me
Still Standing
New Life

^I mean they're all good albums but I want her to do something different for once. 'New Life' has got Old quite quickly.

True! Especially when I heard "Until It's Gone". She can do really gospel-heavy tracks just for a change, I mean, if Whitney who was the biggest mainstream artist at that time came up with gospel soundtracks, she definitely should as well, especially since she loves talking about moving on, new beginnings, succeeding after trials, etc! Her voice is very capable of doing that.
