OFFICIAL JIVE PRESS RELEASE

Song Will Debut Simultaneously At Radio And On The U.S. iTunes Store At Midnight (EST) On January 11th

New York, NY- Britney Spears’ new highly anticipated song “Hold It Against Me” will premiere simultaneously on radio stations and be available immediately in the U.S. exclusively on the iTunes store, Tuesday, January 11th at 12AM EST.

“Hold It Against Me” is produced by Britney’s long-time collaborators Max Martin and Dr. Luke and is the official lead single from her forthcoming album. The as-yet-untitled seventh studio album is slated for release in March, 2011 on Jive Records.

Fans will have the opportunity to purchase the song exclusively on the iTunes store until 1/18.

During her 12-year career, Britney has had five albums debut in the No. 1 position on Billboard ’s Top 200 Albums chart and she’s had 24 Top 40 hits on Billboard’s Mainstream Top 40 chart. Globally, Britney Spears is one of the top-selling artists of the past decade, dominating charts with her albums, selling an astonishing 67 million albums worldwide. Her previous albums include: …Baby One More Time (1999); Oops!… I Did It Again (2000); Britney (2001); In The Zone (2003); Blackout (2007); Circus (2008); and The Singles Collection (2009).

At least they updated the album figures from 63 million in late 2009 to 67 million :P

Unless the single can do a California Gurls, and have longevity then it's really not. Releasing to iTunes too early was what stopped Taylor Swift's Mine from going to #1.

I think it's a smart move. I guess they want a #1 debut again. With this huge hype, first week airplay must be huge for sure. And it'll be exclusively available on itunes for 1 week, before the song is available in other music stores the week after. They want to maximize first week sales. They had a meeting with iTunes so we can expect heavy iTunes promotion (front page banner, page full of Britney, etc.)

Mine sold 297,000 copies on four days of sales. Since the song leaked so early, the label sent it to iTunes on August 4th, rather than August 16th.

Britney will have six days of sales, and 7 or 8 days of airplay.

250-380K first week is my best guess. I would love it to do 400K+ though.

Over 360K would ensure her a #1, I believe.

this but "Mine" definitely did not fare so excellently as hoped, it took ages to see the video to support it as well as live performences. Today it's trend to release song on iTunes instantly but actually it can block the song from getting No.1 (Top 5 or Top 3 very often happens instead) as sales falter next weeks with rising yet not-so-fast airplay

and you may add that Britney hasn't had a hit as big as CG since... her debut maybe? :-? so i think her new one will be another 2xPl single for her, and if it's a huge hit it could end up outselling Womanizer and become her 2nd 3xPl single, but also she has never had an Airplay hit as big as CG (for example), so unless she promotes, it won't have that big longevity enough to reach a higher level in sales  BUT both debut weeks for album and single will be really good

Umm the song is going to iTunes January 11th which is the premiere date. The song will most likely sell off hype and name alone for the first day or two.

I see a lot of people predicting around 300,000+ for the singles opening week. But is that enough to top the Hot 100, or even the Digital chart? Sales are really high right now and her sales will be for week #4 of January.

Here's a recap on last years and this years post-Christmas sales:

2010

Tik Tok
#1 - 610,069
#2 - 394,418 (-35%)
#3 - 252,283 (-36%)
#4 - 244,480 (-4%)

2011

Grenade
#1 - 559,209
#2 - 424,906 (-24%)
#3 -
#4 -

Firework
#1 - 508,661
#2 - 398,194 (-22%)
#3 -
#4 -

The second week sales for Grenade & Firework were influenced a lot with iTunes cards people got for Christmas, so expect big declines next week. I don't know, can she do it?

Considering sales are lower from last year I think 300k will be enough to top the digital chart.

With 300k is totally enough for a #1 debut! :D

But I don't know if she can sold 300k in 6 days, fingers crossed.

I think the single will be directly #1 the first week easily with +300k sales.
