I wish I had more people to talk to about her music, I'm so obssessed with her at the minute!!

Her album It's Alright (I See Rainbows) is just so so good for me, it's her 'poppiest' album I think and Spec of Dust is plain amazing and sad!! :o

My top 4 albums are Rising, AIU, Season of Glass & It's Alright (I See Rainbows), I love them all. Blueprint for a Sunrise has some amazing stuff too, there's always something interesting an a Yoko album, I've totally fallen in love with her music over the last few months, she is now an alltime fave! I've heard she is making an album with Sonic Youth!! :o Can't wait!!
It's Alright (I See Rainbows) is soooooo cheesy, I love it too. Yoko the synth-pop star.
I don't think it's cheesy!!! It's a top album! Ol' Yoko can do it all! 8-)
You gotta admit "I See Rainbows" is kinda cheesy though...

Although its nothing compared to the Starpeace album in that department. Children Power and The King Of The Zoo sound like she was recording theme songs to 80's Nickelodeon cartoons.

I still think this is one of the best openings to an album, so dark! :o

Gotta love Yoko! 8-)

I was thinking about waiting until the survivors started to give the albums my full attention. I'm expecting some really good music because it's you who is hyping her, plus I've heard a few tracks over the year which have impressed me - but I only remember the witch. PS: Love your avatar! 8-)

Do you know which album survivor you'll start with? If you do then I'd appreciate a "lead-single" to start off with, that's how I usually begin before diggin deeper into an album.

Well I usually like listening to an album quite abit before taking part in a survivor so the tracks have time to settle in and I can make a clear judgment on what I like. I'm glad you've been impressed with her music thus far and 'Yes, I'm a Witch' is a stormer well the reworked version is, is this the version you've heard?? Thanks about my avatar! 8-) It's a great moody picture of her! :D

I'm doing Rising first. :D Well it's funny you ask about lead singles I've just had to check on Wiki because I just went in head first with her albums and see her as an album artist! I don't think she released a single from Rising!!! :o :o But she released remixes? :-?

According to Wiki the first of 2 singles on Approximately Infinite Universe was Move On Fast. 8-)

Try ->>

Wouldnit, Ask The Dragon or Warzone from Rising first maybe. I hope you enjoy!! 8-) :D

Well, what I actually meant by "lead-single" was a random chosen track. Like if I discover a new group/artist and a random album track - I imagine it as the lead single in my life (for that group or artist), I think of my personal chart as if it was "real".. even global 8-) !!

I agree, I'd prefer doing that, but there's so much I'm listening to right now, which is quite new - so there's not much space for more at the moment. Plus, I expect an album with Yoko Ono to be demanding (even more considering my way of listening to music), since it's not very conventional. But my first impressions are usually enough to vote in a survivor. Don't worry.

You once posted a link to the witch track, around the time you discovered it - and I used that same link for a time. Can't say which version it was. Thanks for the new links!

(More members should add links to every song they mention around the forum!)

I'm at 1:50 on Move On Fast now! I've very much smiled through the whole song now while banging my head. Does not some of her vocals remind you of Kate Bush, or am I just being a hardcore fan right now? Up until she sang "liberty" (I think it was) I thought "hmm....." but then when she began to shout I started to love it. Crazy Yoko!!!!!!!! It reminded me of White Rabbit for some reason, with Jefferson Airplane. This smells of weed and freedom. Ahhh

You're going to get so disappointed with me now!

Yoko Ono & The Brother Brothers... that's the version that's on iTunes. And I guess because I never asked you about it, I maybe thought that it was not the real version, and therefore avoided to purchase it.

I have not listened to those other tracks, because I don't like to youtube convert, or download illegal files - I just can not do it. Sorry. It's really painful that Move On Fast is'nt avaliable there, I've been jamming to that song a few days now, song of the day 2 times - but I hate to keep playing youtube files you know. Plus I don't like using Spotify either, but if the albums avaliable there, I'll hear them from my brothers computer. Or else from my friends computer, he has them illegally downloaded, I remember that (he has everything that fool).

However. You'll just have to try with songs that's avaliable via youtube or similar sites.

I understand about Move on Fast, and the album not being on iTunes, but you can still tell me your thoughts on the tracks from the youtube links then.

Take a listen to those Rising tracks I posted on zshare, you haven't got to download them tracks on there, if you wait for the page to load there is a media player which plays the track...if you like them they are available to download on iTunes, come back when you listened Vinny baby! :D [/b]

A lot of Yoko's stuff is out of print, so illegally is the way to go unless you want to put up big $$$ on ebay. Rising's been out of print since I got into her music in 1999.

Ouch, that's really sad is it not? It always irritates me when some artists material is difficult to find. In this case I guess there's no other way than download illegally at first then. The quality is always much worse than the original recordings, that's the main reason why I resist those files. Except when it comes to Ciara and all hear leaked tracks which never end up on any album. OK! I'll try to find the Rising album tonight!

Rising is good, but I personally gravitate more to Approximately Infinite Universe, her 70's "singer-songwriter rock" album (the original Move On Fast is on this) and Season Of Glass, the album she recorded in the aftermath of Lennon's murder.

I think suggesting songs is kind of difficult since her music is such an acquired taste, but I do think the original versions of pretty much any of her "dance hits" (Move On Fast, Walking On Thin Ice, Wouldntit, Give Me Something, Yang Yang, Hell In Paradise, Every Man Has A Woman Who Loves Him, etc...) are the easiest bets because they generally are the songs that would be the least "shocking" to a newbie. I would avoid Fly and Plastic Ono Band until you're very comfortable with her, those two albums were experimental and misunderstood and those two albums singlehandedly gave her the "screaming banshee" typecast that people still typecast her as 40 year on.

"Walking On Thin Ice" is easily her biggest hit and the grand statement of her career. The remix version was a bigger hit but the original 1980 recording is the one to go back to. It was known for being recorded on the night Lennon was murdered, therefore had his last guitar work ever, but its a brilliant song.

The experimental music is probably what I would need to hear first in order to appreciate the rest, but thank you very much for that post. You and crazycrazy have given me a great starting point to begin from. Fly & Plastic Ono Band sounds interesting, there's so much to discover!

I was wrong, Rising is on iTunes (it's the Universe album which was not avaliable) - actually loving the previews right now!! Sounds to me like a great record to start with, not very complex - but still full of variation and unexpected twists while easy to listen through.

Who is this "Ono" artist that appears when I search for her on iTunes, have she used that name officially when releasing records as well?
