I was looking for the Blondie topic and I just couldn't find it so I create one. Before a couple of days I "revised" my Blondie-Atomic compilation cd taking out about half the songs and adding others and I am listening to Blondie/Debbie Harry non-stop the last few days... the new tracklist is:
Code: Select all
01.Dennis
02.Hanging On The Telephone
03.Heart Of Glass
04.Sunday Girl
05.One Way Or Another
06.Dreaming
07.The Hardest Part
08.Call Me
09.Atomic
10.Rapture
11.Backfired (1988 official remix)
12.The Jam Was Moving (remix)
13.Chrome
14.War Child
15.Rush Rush
16.Feel The Spin
17.I Want That Man
18.Kiss It Better
19.Maria
20.Good Boys

Now I always loved me some Blondie/Debbie but I guess I had forgotten how great her music had been and still is. I cannot even start saying how much I love her, the original blueprint on which Madonna, Cyndi Lauper and most of '80s pop divas were built upon and one of the ultimate gay icons of all times. Perfect

Debbie on Desert Island Discs. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/de ... c#b0118cmz

She chooses Nina Simone, Velvets, Gossip, Fever Ray, Peaches, Calvin Harris, Nino Rota and Mahler.

Nice anecdote about a razor-blade dress.

I really like their new album! At first some of it seemed very underwhelming but after giving it a fair spin, I've come to the conclusion that I like all of it to varying degrees! :D

Top 5 at the mo in no order:

D-Day - This track is so good! She reminds me of Poe here alot! 8-)
Wipe off The Sweat - I know some of you guys don't like it but it's just so catchy! I love her vocals on it too! 8-)
Words In My Mouth - I love this one!!!
Sunday Smile - A real grower, subtle and gentle, top song!
The End The End - I really like the sound of this, real nice song!

I like the rest of it too, not one song I don't like Love Doesn't Frighten Me & What I Heard are great too, I like Mother but it shouldn't have been the lead!

I'm going to try some solo Debbie now, and going on Dreams suggestions! :D

crazycrazy have you heard the Blondie studio albums (aside from the new one)? If so I'd suggest listening to those before the DH solo ones. Parallel Lines and Eat to the Beat in particular are vital :o

The DH solo stuff is mostly nice but hardly essential, however Blondie's golden era '76-'82 is untouchable

I too sometimes have inverse opinions when it comes to their work (ie. a lot of people hate The Hunter album yet I love it) so every opinion is welcome, I look forward to your opinions. Discovering these albums the first time was very special for me, hope it is for you as well :D

I've got the 'Atomic: Very Best Of Blondie' album. It's one of the fave greatest hits albums I've got (alongside Abba, Madonna and U2)

My fave Blondie songs are: Heart of Glass (all-time fave by them), Denis, The Tide Is High, Hanging On The Telephone, Union City Blue and One Way or Another. Debbie solo-wise I like I Want That Man and French Kissin' In The USA.

They played at T In The Park last weekend.

Maria

One Way or Another

Atomic
You taste just like glitter mixed with rock and roll
I'd rather be a comma than a full stop

Autoamerican has two of the biggest hits, Rapture and The Tide Is High, but it really lacks a focus and I think that is why the album divides fans. They try everything from Sinatra, surf music, reggae, rap and disco on it. Its a frustrating album, especially following Plastic Letters, Parallel Lines and Eat To The Beat, but listening to it earlier (I've been on a Blondie kick) I realized its a far more solid album on a song by song basis than I've wanted to accept it as being.

yep, "Follow Me" is a Sinatra standard, and Deb does a very good job on it. I just don't think the new wave kids knew what to make of it in 1980

They just released their first album in eight years last summer, I think we're set for awhile.

I missed this free download (posted on the Deborah Harry website.) A Panic Of Girls outtake that writer/ producer Paul Carbonara posted online in January (the download link no longer exists as it was from Megaupload which has been shut down). It has its own artwork so is effectively a single. It's a lot better than most of the album. Restless

EDIT: In fact, on second listen, it puts the entire album to shame. :o This is dreamy Debs at her best - echoes of English Boys, Pretty Baby, Brite Side... :o

I love Blondie/Debbie Harry along with Talking Heads there one of the great American bands .
I remember the first time i saw her on Top Of The Pops in 1978 , she wore a red and white stripped swimming costume and a black Jacket 8-)
She was singing Denis and i nearly had a cardiac arrest , she was so sexy and beautiful , i really could'nt believe what i was seeing .
I was 17 at the time , and i think she was 32 which was quite old to be having your first hit record .
She had been in a folk group in the 60's called Wind In The Willows , they released one album in 1969 i think .
So she had quite a wait for her moment of fame .
Favourite albums are:

Blondie-Plastic Letters (1978)
Blondie-Eat To The Beat (1979)
Debbie Harry - Rockbird (1986)

Rockbird inparticular is a favourite album from the 80's , it's the album with French Kissin on it every song is brilliant and her voice is stunning throughout the album 8-)

Love this second single from Rockbird , it only got to # 46 in the UK in 1987 .
It should have gone top 10 like French Kissin , she looks great too for 41 8-)

Free To Fall (1987)

^You can talk about classic Debbie/ Blondie here http://www.ukmix.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=60278

This thread is for new Blondie material that isn't on an album or single. :D Or it should be - as that other thread was created first.
