I see the need for them because they're a tradition, but I hate watching it and then they might show 20 seconds of a performance before going to commercial. Hello, Video MUSIC awards. Can't for two hours they pretend that it isn't all about Jersey Shore and co. and act like they care about music?

Grammys should be the one scrapped, they don't nominate the ones who deserve to get nominated anymore!
Grammys , more like the Scammy awards, lol, always picking their faves, its all political bullshit
I agree. The Grammys are more a popularity contest than "the best music". If they always awarded the acts who always score on the most "best of" year end lists, it'd be acts that few care about. Hell, to give Arcade Fire Album Of The Year was ballsy and even then they put them at the very end of the show after the awards were given out.

I think the Grammys are more a prestige thing than something musicians take seriously. Every year they have an agenda... one year it's "award the legend who made a decent comeback as an consolation prize for when we snubbed their prime" (Santana, Dylan, etc...), then the next they're going for the most successful album (Taylor, Bodyguard, Celine), and then they go for the "edgy" album that the critics loved so they can prove that the voters are still "with it" (Lauryn Hill, Arcade Fire, Norah Jones...). Its a very consistent pattern, next year AOTY will likely go to an artist who has been around for a long time and released a comeback that makes them cool again.

TTWE was a big hit, MTV was all over HIAM, and IWG was shot great.
Brit will get noms in at least these categories: Video Of They Year, Best Pop, Best Female, Best Choreography, Best Cinematography, Best Dance Video

Lil Wayne to Perform at MTV VMAs

Lil Wayne will take center stage at the MTV Video Music Awards next month. In a not-so-surprising move, the hip-hop heavyweight is among the performers at this year’s show.

While MTV has yet to make an official announcement or reveal nominees, Wayne’s manager Cortez Bryant spilled the beans to Billboard.com during a recent interview, also revealing that Tha Carter IV will be available on iTunes “immediately after” his VMA performance.

The long-awaited album is complete and Bryant confirmed appearances from Nas, Jadakiss, and Tech N9ne. “It’s done for the most part, [around] thirty songs [that] I need to carve down to twelve to sixteen, with four or so bonus tracks,” he explained.

The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards will air live from the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles on August 28 at 9 p.m.

The nominations are pretty good, except what the hell is Adele doing in every category with a video that shows shaking glasses . And no Chris Brown for Best Choreography? :o And what's so good about that Pitbull/Ne-Yo/Afrojack video lol. And IMO 'Judas' is million times better than 'Born This Way'.

My pick:

Video of The Year
Katy Perry - "Firework"

Best Collaboration
Chris Brown f/ Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes - "Look At Me Now"

Best Male Video
Justin Bieber - "U Smile"

Best Female Video
Nicki Minaj - "Super Bass"

Best Hip-Hop Video
Nicki Minaj - "Super Bass"

Best New Artist
Big Sean f/ Chris Brown - "My Last"

Best Rock Video
??

Best Pop Video
Katy Perry - "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)"

Best Art Direction
Lady Gaga - "Judas"

Best Coreography
Beyoncé - "Run The World (Girls)"

Best Cinematography
Eminem f/ Rihanna - "Love the Way You Lie"

Best Direction
Eminem f/ Rihanna - "Love the Way You Lie"

Best Editing
Katy Perry f/ Kanye West - "E.T."

Best Special Effects
Katy Perry f/ Kanye West - "E.T."
