Wow: You expected NBC’s post-Super Bowl season 2 premiere for The Voice to be big.
But not this big.
The Voice returned to 37.6 million viewers and a 16.3 rating among adults 18-49. That’s — and here’s the killer claim — the highest rating for a non-sports telecast on any network in six years. It’s the biggest number since the post-Super Bowl telecast of Grey’s Anatomy in 2006. It’s also up 47 in the demo versus Fox’s post-Bowl airing of Glee last year.
Can NBC’s ratings victory continue tonight with the premiere of Smash?

8 p.m. - "The Voice" started primetime strong for NBC with 16.08 million viewers and a 5.7 rating among adults 18-49. That was comfortably ahead of CBS' "How I Met Your Mother" (9.99 million viewers and a 4.0 key demo) and "2 Broke Girls" (11.42 million viewers and a 4.3 key demo). ABC's "The Bachelor" averaged 8.06 million viewers and a 2.5 key demo rating for third, actually rising in viewers over last week. Despite a heavily promoted, format-bending episode, FOX's "House" slipped to 7.155 million viewers and a 2.4 key demo rating. On The CW, "Gossip Girl" averaged 1.28 million viewers and a 0.6 key demo rating.

9 p.m. - In its second hour, "The Voice" soared to 19.295 million viewers and a 7.5 rating among adults 18-49 for NBC (peaking with 19.395 million and a 7.7 key demo in its second half-hour, which'll be important for "Smash" comparisons in a second). CBS was second with "2 Broke Girls" (12.9 million and a 4.2 key demo) and "Mike & Molly" (11.015 million and a 3.4 key demo). ABC's "The Bachelor" rose to 8.43 million viewers and a 2.7 key demo rating in its second hour. FOX's "Alcatraz" slipped to 6.78 million viewers and a "Terra Nova"-esque 2.2 key demo rating, shedding over 1.5 million viewers and a 0.5 key demo from last week. On The CW, "Hart of Dixie" averaged 1.5 million viewers and a 0.6 key demo rating.
:o 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

That IS insane, actually higher than American Idol's season premiere and all the following chapters... not even talking about X Factor dreadful atmosphere

I must admit I am quite late with this as I missed the first season and only yesterday started watching it, but ... wow - this is better than AI & XF taken together :o And I am loving Adam and Christina to bits 8-) (don't care for the other two really ...). Looking forward to the series ahead :D

IMO, Christina and Adam are stealing the spotlight to be honest... it's like, we can actually see this show without Blake and Cee Lo (I like CeeLo but in all honestly, they're replaceable), now in the other hand the XtinAdam duo is fire on the show! A-MA-ZING! :) :P

I agree, Christina and Adam are stealing the show, but Blake is very funny as well, Cee-Lo however is the safest and nicest one! :)

+1 actually all 4 of them are special on their on way, Blake is charming, and funny, and he has greaaaaaat chemistry with Adam, and he seems like really good and nice person, Cee Lo is often very quiet, but when he says something, or some of his faces I'm dying... and yeah Adam & Xtina love to be in spotlight... they love camera, and camera them ;) and their joking and poking each other is greaaaaaat! I love them all 4!

So many great contestants already and the interactions between the coaches is brilliant, the best panel on TV by far at the moment!

Loved the guy who did White Stripes, the one in the first show who did "A Song For You", the 37 year old woman who gave up kids for her dream, the girl who sang Adele, the woman who was in the army who Carson tweeted about and the Chaka Khan-esque diva!

The one contestant who's got on my nerves a bit so far is the guy who did backing vocals for Alicia Keys as he was being really cocky with the coaches and acted like he deserved special treatment.

The ratings are brilliant, I love how its been such a surprise hit and is outperforming any other singing show now. Simon may as well give up on X Factor because this show is the way forward in the US. I really hope it has success in the UK too and doesn't just become another Fame Academy.

I can't believe you mentioned like every contestant from last night and not the AMAZING Lindsey Pavao, who did the Trey Songz song 'Say Aah' in her own style. About a second in, my button was pressed. Incredible.

Christina can be real annoying but I loved when she pointed out their similar hairstyles and went 'whuuuut? whuuuuuuuuuuuuut?'
Also loved Blake standing up every time somebody called him attractive to thank the crowd. I think they're hilarious and all add something to the panel.

My other favourites so far have been the duo The Line, I love a good harmony! Also Juliette Sims from the first episode, and Gwen Sebastian and Jamar Rogers from episode two.

I think Christina or Cee-Lo currently have the strongest teams, and Adam the weakest.

I forgot about her but yeah she was good, though it seemed like she stumbled over the words at one point? Do you have your own button and spinning chair at home?

LOL @ Christina; "I did have success before Maroon 5 came along"... and it was funny when Blake said Cee-Lo spends most of the show asleep

Really liked Pip, a proper solid powerful voice. I didn't think the lesbian woman was that good! The woman who sang "One Of Us" was refreshing.

Erin Martin was stunning - J-Lo meets Alicia Keys. Did she say that girl was her girlfriend? Her voice was almost identical to somebody else and I can't quite place it!

I'm glad that Winter girl didn't get through, she was average. LOOOL @ Jordis's dad wearing Homer Simpson's dress!

She was incredible!

Erin Martin sounds like Helicopter Girl (now there's an artist who never had a break, despite singing on a Rod Stewart single and being Mercury nominated).

Jordis Unga was on Rockstar: INXS (which was a great series). She wasn't quite so great here as she could be then. And she looks terrible now!

Yeah, not that big on Sarah Golden though she was nice.

Love, love, LOVED Pip. Probably my second favourite and glad he joined Team Adam.

Chris Cauley I didn't find as good as everyone said, James Massone was interesting.. 'he's white!!'..

Geoff McBride was great, Christina has a couple of powerhouse male vocalists...

Moses the MC - how is that gonna work in the battle rounds?!

Erin Martin was cool though maybe it'll get a bit much...

Pip definitely the standout, though I loved the sweet girl at the start whose attitude they commended.

I love this panel so much! Each of them is hilarious!

I don't find Christina all that funny. All that waffling on to Adam was tiresome - she's pretending it's lighthearted rivalry but i think she means it. Adam has the patience of a saint.

Blake is still my fave and the one with the least "persona" - and Cee Lo is coolness personified. Just has to say three words to state his case.

Don't really like Carson Daly.

Christina is definitely the least funny and the most tiring BUT she still adds a lot and is a very worthy pannelist - she is possibly the one with the best critique.. Cee-Lo's is often pretentious waffle. They all have their flaws BUT are all 9/10 picks - top, top panel!

Wouldn't say Blake had the least persona at all!

I knew the ratings would decrease instead of maintaining the number after the Super Bowl.

I'm happy Idol is still #1, and it's the better show as well.

Charlotte Sometimes - real name Jessica Charlotte Porland - stage name from a children's book/ Cure song.

I loved her 2008 single How I Could Just Kill A Man - named after a Cypress Hill track. Forgotten about her since! Didn't know she had a jaw disease. :o
