With more than 12 million albums sold and multiple Grammy nominations, Tori Amos is one of the most successful and influential artists of her generation. A pioneer across multiple platforms, she was the first major-label artist to offer a single for download, has had her songs turned into graphic novels, and has produced pioneering videos throughout her career. She is renowned for her passionate and broad fan-base, her critically and commercially successful tours, and her ever-evolving live show.

The latest addition to Amos’s series of ground-breaking recordings, Night of Hunters, is her twelfth studio album and her first for Deutsche Grammophon. This 21st-century song cycle takes its inspiration from classical pieces spanning the last 400 years, by composers ranging from Bach and Schubert to Granados and Satie, and marks the return of Amos’s piano to centre stage. It is also her first studio album exclusively involving acoustic instruments. The songs are arranged for string quartet and flute, oboe, English horn, clarinet, bassoon and contrabassoon in various formations. For the recording Amos has put together an ensemble of outstanding performers from the classical world, including the award-winning young Polish string quartet Apollon Musagète and Berllin Philharmonic principal clarinettist Andreas Ottensamer.

With Night of Hunters, which she wrote and produced, Amos carries on the tradition of variations on a theme to create a bold new work while paying tribute to the mastery of the original compositions. In her own words: “I have used the structure of a classical song cycle to tell an ongoing, modern story. The protagonist is a woman who finds herself in the dying embers of a relationship. In the course of one night she goes through an initiation of sorts that leads her to reinvent herself, allowing the listener to follow her on a journey to explore complex musical and emotional subject matter. One of the main themes explored on this album is the hunter and the hunted and how both exist within us.”
Release Date: September 20, 2011.

Great to see you being the one opening this thread Kevin! This album will probably do even worse than Director's Cut, but from what I can hear, the music will be worth supporting. As always with Tori!

Soundscan means US sales, right? I was hoping for them to be at 10 million, but that is still great numbers.

Night Of Hunters needs to enter the top 10! She should be able to sell 40.000!

Including record club sales, they probably are. The original article states 12 million, which sounds about right. Worldwide sales should be a little higher than that.

Does anyone have time to do an iTunes update on the album? It's released today, it's a beautiful album, but I don't have the time to check all the links!

Curious to see how she's doing.

The iTunes links does not work on my computer today for some reason, so I am very thankful that you did post that!

#11 on US iTunes is great. As I've written before, I really want her to peak inside the top 10! :D

HDD:

"Detusche Grammonphon’s Tori Amos album, Night of Hunters, is her first for the famed German classical label, recorded entirely through acoustic instruments, relying on her vocals and piano skills, with string and woodwind accompaniment. Look for it to do between 21-24k."

That would mean only a top 20 peak. Annoying.

Without any kind of promotion on the media and with a not radio friendly appeal you can't pretend that much....

With the release of her new album, Night Of The Hunters, Tori Amos has become the first female in Billboard Chart history to simultaneously land on Billboard’s Classical, Alternative and Rock Charts all in the Top 10. The album debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Classical Crossover and Classical Overall Charts, while also nabbing the #5 position on the Alternative Chart and #7 on the Rock Chart.
