Thanks for the news! In the past when I have said Susan is 'Platinum' somewhere, someone often comes back with, 'ya but that's just shipped albums' - well in this case it is based on SALES! 3 Platinum UK albums and all 3 broke records - congratulations to Susan Boyle.

You need to read again the posts some have made about shipped. Yes it's sold over platinum status, but when people talk about over shipped, means they have shipped 2 or 3 times the amount of sales like they did with The Gift. So if the BPI come out and say it's 3xplatinum and only sold 300,000 that will be well over shipped.

I know what it means, thanks. I prefer to focus on what has been achieved, because for a 50 year old woman who'd lived almost her entire life in obscurity, it is quite remarkable.

Not for any other singer have I seen the comments about 'yes but that's just shipped' when it comes to Platinum award announcements. For Susan it happens almost every time. Sour grapes imo. Whatever the amount is that she has sold, it is amazing when you consider how completely different she is from every other singer out there selling well today.

By mid 2010 IDAD was 1,000,000 over shipped and still no where near to reach these numbers and likewise with TG
Sony seems to be very carefull this time not to over ship.

WOW! Does Susan Boyle ever draw passion on both sides! - those who like her and those who don't.

As the great saying goes, everything is relative. For example, how remarkable that some people even managed to find a downside to some of Adele's numbers! Good grief!

Susan Boyle is expected to compete not only with every singer who ever lived, but every new up and coming latest flavour of the month singer! And to top it off, she even has to compete with herself! It is beyond ridiculous to expect that each Susan Boyle album will sell the same number. It is like saying Adele will be a failure if her number 3 album doesn't sell 15million.

There are tens of thousands of albums released every year. STWOM is going to finish in the top 40 WORLDWIDE or very near - we will know shortly. The list later today will also show that STWOM has sold over 1 million. I'm sure the other fans of the singers of those tens of thousands of lower placed albums would be happy to have such a showing as Susan Boyle.

Lastly putting "fan" in your user name doesn't mean you're a fan!

To quote Penny (BBT) it just creams my corn!

Not too shabby for 7-8 weeks! Thanks for the news, Slim. Based on that, and considering that #'s 37-40 all report at 1.1 million, and that some folks are on the list 2 or 3 times, only around 30 people sold more than Susan Boyle for the whole year!

I forgot to post the link to the year-end United World Chart - here it is:

Susan Boyle appears to be the only Syco artist to make this list.

I feel this album performed well with not a lot of promotion in the US and did as well as or better than many other established artists.

Have to agree - aside from a week in Australia, promotion was negligible, especially when compared with Buble/Bieber who were everywhere constantly it seemed.

The next step for this album will be the stage production musical, 'I Dreamed A Dream' starring Elaine C. Smith, with Susan Boyle appearing for the finale of each (or most) shows for the first 11 weeks. The musical will feature many of Susan's songs.

A good showing after only 8 weeks in release in the UK. STWOM is ahead of many established and trendy artists and groups. Well done, Susan! :D
