Things you've learnt from UKMIX

i.e. things you would never ever hear about if it wasn't for UKMIX.

I'll start.

- iTunes rules all.

- People still care about Janet Jackson and Celine Dion.

- Album and single covers are important and can make or break an artist's reputation online (current victim: Leona Lewis).

- Britney still has a very strong following (online) keeping her relevant. I don't think I've ever heard one of her Femme Fatale songs on the radio. I don't know if I'd even know about her new album if I didn't visit here.

- There is a woman called Shardinay who released a song called 'Oh Boy'.

- Emoticons are no joking matter. If you're gonna put a  or  at the end of your post, you're potentially offending somebody.

- If you dare claim that Beyonce/Lady Gaga/Britney is the queen of pop, you better be prepared to write a full report on it.

Continue please...

That's harsh and quite ironic - Celine is the 2nd best-selling female artist of the decade in terms of album sales, and behind Madonna, the most successful touring artist of the decade.

Don't be a fool. :)

- People can get offended over the slightest thing.

- Be prepared to know, and recall, anything and everything that your favourite artist has ever achieved; i.e. "so-and-so has sold 200 billion records and is the 2nd best middle-aged woman of all time, according to Digital Spy".

- If it wasn't for Ukmix, I wouldn't have known that Madonna had other songs besides 4 Minutes & La Isla Bonita in her discography. (And i'm being serious, no shade intended)

- That Blackout by Britney Spears ever existed.Femme Fatale too, to a certain extent.I hear TTWE & I Wanna Go on the radio, but no one seems to talk about her much nowadays, in real life.

- That Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel was released.Apart from the random hit that was Obsessed, no one i know knows Mariah's had an album out since E=MC2 (And i prefer to keep it that way).

I think my music collection is DOUBLE than what it would be without UKMix. I've discovered so much music through the posters here.
So many genres and artists I wouldn't have even known about if I didn't see the topics or posters recommending them.

I used to think that I was pretty alone with my music interests - until I met UKmix-ers. Now I know that actually I don't know that much in comparison with others - and I LOVE learning from you all.

Except Saturdays fans. I don't enjoy learning from you. At all.

Well, if it wasn't for Wayne, I wouldn't have heard of any other Celine song apart from "My Heart Will Go On", and I wouldn't have ended up spending over £70 on Celine Dion CDs.

But this place has introduced me to literally hundreds of other artists as well, and as a result, my music collection wouldn't even be a fraction of the size it is today.

I guess it's also been beneficial on a more personal level as it's allowed me to converse with a whole range of people who have similar interests/tastes in music to me.

I also know thousands of useless chart facts and statistics that I can use to my advantage in future pub quizzes and/or attempts to freak out my friends and relatives.

Oh, and Adam and irishguy have improved my English a little over the years as well. Or at least they should of.

That some people care more about chart sales than they do about their own mother.

But that there are people in the world just as weird and as wonderful as me

I trust that grammar error was for comic effect, yes? :o

There's a number of acts I'd barely have noticed without UKMIX hype - Shardinay being an obvious recent one, but also some other lovely random pop acts that got nowhere.

I'd also never have known that my interest in the charts is VERY tame compared to a number of people! :o

Tom - I thought you'd gone to entertain your girlfriend? Well now we know how long that takes.

Sam - I'm okay joking my sweet!

-----------------------

I have learnt that some people turn into absolute monsters if you say their favourite artist has a hair out of place on their head.

I've been introduced to so many great artists here: Kylie Minogue (thanks to Paul), Amy Studt (thanks to crazycrazy), Shontelle, Bruno Mars, Amy Winehouse, Adele, and so many more! I've discovered much more Britney music too after delving into her discography - and now she's my fave artist! I've also learned so much about chart statistics and and my music taste has expanded tremendously in the past two years! :o

What 'shade' means - I remember when Rihanna tweeted "Who's Cedric?" and everyone was like 'Woaah, she's shading Ciara' or 'Mariah and Rihanna are the queens of shade' and things like those, then I knew.

That if someone replies or better yet, quotes your post, with a "" you are in fact a comic genius! However, if you do so edit a post and someone has swiftly responded thus causing your post to outright declare it an edited post you are a FAILURE OF WIT.
