I think the name has little to do with US sales!

There may have been some confusion at the first announcement. But that faded prior to the album release. The sole US issue is lack of a strong urban single thus far and urban buzz. That's what pushed her during the first era with the debut week and longevity. SB came long after and only (comparatively speaking) minimally pushed the album.

It's no different. So she debated in more countries, still most debts weren't impressive in terms of being high and I doubt if, in the long run, they will make up for the trade off to more pop music.
"Take A Bow"... Rihanna's ONLY ballad to go #1 on the Hot 100 (also topped the R&B Chart)... Great deed for her most epic ballad!!!

+ 1

But it's early... I'm wondering if she can turn it around! Otherwise I don't see this passing PF's total WW sales, even with her "debuting" in several European countries.

Because it's obvious!!! RELOADED... re-released... it's the same just with a few more tracks... GGGB: Reloaded, Thalia's El Sexto Sentido: Reloaded... this is the worst title EVER!

+1.

I thought this album was a rerelease until I checked it on Wikipedia (well after its release).
I was sure it was somthing like Guetta's "One More Love", i.e. Pink Friday + a few unreleased tracks + successful collaborations of the past

Because now every artist re-releases the album. Almost every important album had a re-release in the last few years.

So it's normal that people think it's a re-release.

I'm sure people are not that dum to realise that this album has a different tracklisting than Pink Friday

I'm sure that most of the fans that haven't bought the album haven't even checked the tracklist at all. They heard Stupid Hoe and Starships, and maybe liked the songs, but then they heard about a new album called PF: ROMAN RELOADED, they thought was a re-release, and they decided not to buy it without checking it on iTunes or Wikipedia. With 4-5 more singles, some of them will realize that an album cannot have +30 tracks, so some of them will begin to check if it's really a re-release, and then, you know what's gonna happen.

Not everyone is interested in this kind of stuff, I'm sure a lot of fans just buy what they listen and like (without even searching about her/it on the internet), so if they listen to 5-6 new songs that they like about her on the radio (on the months to come), some of them will realize it's not a re-release, and even some of them will re-buy it thinking it's a re-release (but will buy it due to the new songs they like/love).

@re-release: I guess some people just think too much about it... Hearing the title, I'm not thinking of a re-release because as I already wrote, "reloaded" can also mean a sequel...

Of course the fact that all major artists re-release their albums is stupid... If artists didn't put too much album fillers on their records, there wouldn't be re-releases at all because the songs with high potential would already be on the mother album.
Re-releases are a cheap way to sell an album because it's like showing a middle finger to the people which already own the previous version of the album and if they want to have the new songs, they are forced to buy the new version. Instead, it would be better if artists directly say that they want to have a re-release so the fans can save their money to spent it for the re-release and not on the main album which only includes a part of the songs.
Have several editions at the day of release is OK though because "normal people"/casual buyers can buy the standard edition, fans can buy the deluxe edition and die-hard ones can buy the deluxe edition, which also includes a DVD/a T-shirt/a poster etc.

I think re-releases are done when Artists have a few hit Potential new songs, yet the Album is still selling. It's all about money. Record companies like to milk every penny. Plus it's good to risk it on an old Album rather than building all hype and spending money on promotion for a new project.

This! So tired of the excuses. The album is underperforming for one reason only, ask most of her urban, American fans. I have yet to buy the album and won't until I get some great rap singles that push me to. Her first album had it.

Now, she's a pop star and I'm not buying her album for "Starships."

Re-release is an excuse. It being spring and not winter is an excuse. Promo was big and Starships is a HUGE hit... no excuses for one of the biggest and most hyped rappers out.

And we have yet to see if WW success will offset the loss of sales in the US!

Everyone is saying she's a popstar now but isn't it more dance/house? Starships and Turn Me On would speak for this...

The album is starting already quite similiar to Teenage Dream so I fear that Roman Reloaded will do quite OK saleswise but the main focus will be on the singles  ...

The pop songs have Elements of Dance/House but what Pop song doesnt these days. Starships and the rest of the Dance/Pop songs on the album are the absolute Definition of a Pop song right now. Cheesy lyrics over a dance beat.... The title definately won't help the album also.

I believe its a trifecta of factors leading to a downturn in sales.

1. Overexposure. She has been everywhere recently. Single after single, feature after feature. People have/are growing tired of her.

2. The pop phase. Starships, Where Dem Girls At, Turn Me On, Gimme All Your Luvin. All pop songs that were at the forefront of media coverage or chart coverage recently, portraying her as a POP star.

3. Subpar new material. Stupid Hoe, Roman Holiday, Roman in Moscow were all flops and aren't as good as her previous singles. Even if they were buzz singles. Her urban fanbase has not been appeased with her new music so they didn't buy.

The title of her album played a part, but it really is the least of her worries.

I agree with #3. If she would have came out and released "Champion" or even "By my side" as the first urban singles she would have been fine. Releasing Stupid hoe was a terrible idea... although I love that song! Yo baby bop f you and your EP whose gassin this hoe bp?
