I don't know your musical tastes att all so maybe my offers are known by you)))

So there are several of my favorite albums which are not very mainstream and wide-known.

Blackout - Britney Spears
If you're going to listen to 'In the Zone' you should also try this. I love the dark grimy vibe of the whole album. I enjoy the uptempos the most.

Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded - Rihanna
Make sure it's the complete Reloaded edition with the additional bonus tracks because every track is amazing and I love every single one.

Timbaland Presents: Shock Value - Timbaland
This is kinda like the epitome of 2006-2008 Hip-Hop and some of the best work Timbaland has ever done. Shock Value 2 is okay as well.

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy - Kanye West
This whole album is effing amazing. Kanye is amazing. That is all.

I don't know about your musical tastes but as you can see I'm more of a Pop and Hip-Hop/R&B fan. I hope you like my suggestions. By the way, I may stalk this thread and also listen to some of the albums that are suggested to you. This is a great idea.

Wow, great reception here! :o :o I'll put all of the albums that I've not heard onto my list there are a few I've heard singles from but not the whole album, they'll be added as well. The cut off is 25 for now, all albums suggested after I hit 25 will be in pending.

I listened to my album #1 last night and will post a review tomorrow. :D

Thanks!! :)

btw - Yes Timmy Chun is correct I tend to like albums that do not appeal to mainstream audiences but I like loads of things including mainstream music, no boundaries here. :)

The Critic ~ Album #1: t.A.T.u - 200 KM/H In The Wrong Lane
Image

Rating 4/10

I only knew these two from All the Things She Said & Not Gonna Get Us initially in all honesty, I had not heard both songs in years, I instantly liked both though on re-listen ~ both catchy and instant tracks although I know they will grate with repeated listens. While the album continued to play I started to find the sound rather harsh on my ears, the songs range from messy and unlistenable to catchy euro pop anthems (although most lean toward the former). I only decided to keep 4 tracks from the 11 on offer which really is a bad sign. The best track on the album for me would be How Soon Is Now? which is actually a cover of The Smiths track of the same name! :o They succeed in making it sound like an Avril Lavigne track, Avril could definitely pull this one off whilst in her pop/rock outfit, a strong pop track which pulsates and snarls as 1 of the girls sings “I'm human and I need to be loved, just like everybody else does”.

The other track I kept apart from the first 2 UK singles was Malchik Gay which I felt immediately fell under the guilty pleasure banner, racy & upbeat yet very cheesy and cringe worthy in equal amounts, but I rather liked it! The only other noteworthy song would be Stars which sounds like a pleasant listen up until one of the girls tries her hand at a bit of rapping which quite bluntly does not sound good, in fact it totally ruins what could have been a good track as both girls have semi nice voices although rather lack lustre and pitchy at times. Another thing I sensed was that the duo were playing the 'oh poor me I'm a lesbian and no one likes me' card a bit too much ~ almost bordering on sickeningly insincere levels at times. Unfortunately the album doesn’t motivate me to listen to more from them, I sensed very little substance from it, just both playing up to the roles they had been told to portray (I’m not even sure if they are really lesbians?). The album limps out with Russian versions of the 2 hit singles which I really was not inclined to keep and an extended version of ones of the albums worse tracks. So to summarise no I was not impressed with this album at all, it suffers from sounding relatively samey throughout as well which does not help elevate an already poor album.

Keepers (in order of best):

#1 How Soon Is Now?
#2 All The Things She Said
#3 Not Gonna Get Us
#4 Malchik Gay

I felt the same way when T.A.T.U.'s album was big in 2003 or so. I loved the two singles and their Smiths cover, but forgot the rest. Thanks to this post, I'm putting those three songs on my Spotify queue since I haven't heard Not Gonna Get Us in years. Checking Malchik Gay out too since I don't remember it.

Really great review! I always thought you were an ESL person.

I've heard fours songs from that album. "All The Things She Said", "Not Gonna Get Us", "Malchik Gay" and "Show Me Love". I only like their debut single and "Show Me Love". My favorite t.A.T.u. song is "Show Me Love".

Also, I think the title of their album, 200 KM/H in the Wrong Lane, is absolutely amazing!

The good tunes on this album are bubblegum pop done right. Malchik Gay is so catchy it isn't funny. I can see and understand why they didn't have a long career but for the time it was great pop music, and the four tracks you listed as keepers are ones I'd consider keepers as well.

Definitely keeping up with this thread since a lot of said upcoming albums I'm not familiar with and I always love expanding my tastes as well.

Great minds think alike , glad you will stay with the thread because as I said before ~ ok it's alright for me to waffle about the album :P but I like to hear others thoughts. :)

I'm not a fan of this album, but I like All The Things She Said and Not Gonna Get Us on it. I think their second album is a lot better (and it includes their best song imo, Gomenasai). :) Great, detailed review by the way, I'll be following the thread, too!
