Please, we all know why he left.GetBack wrote:The moral lesson here is that there are performances that you have to learn how to soften your tone. Jessica and Phillip did just that, there were performances that they were on full blast with their ranges and all, and then there were times when they sang in a relaxing, soothing and calming manner that connected well with the viewers in the most intimate sense. In Joshua's case, all of his performances were intense, he doesn't shift gear that much, it's always about the big vocal showcase every time, whether he sings an uptempo or ballad. I think that was his downfall. I'm surprised that I share the same sentiment as Jimmy Iovine (in commenting on Joshua).![]()
I assume you're black.BLover wrote:Please, we all know why he left.![]()
Had Philip had a different skin tone, he wouldn't be in the competition anymore.
So 'American Idol' audience is racist towards black contestants and even if they're far more talented the audience will always choose the white ones? O.oemilhot wrote:Well i'm a white guy, and i think that BLover is kinda right. Some of these white kids (For example Phillip & Scotty) with less than half the talent of the Urban-influenced singers do better on American Idol than some of the great Urban-influenced singers (For example Joshua, Jessica & Jennifer Hudson). Though i think the biggest problems for singers like Joshua is that a huge amount of the AI viewers seems to be prefering Country, Pop & Rock music, and it doesn't help that Urban music is struggling on the mainstream charts aswell...
This is so true! I mean, I'm Asian and I didn't want to see Heejun go, he was the first Korean to enter the finals and I was happy for them too, but I knew that he wasn't that good compared to others despite him giving his best performances before he left. The whole race/color issue here is pointless, considering there have been three people of color who have won this competition.pcdm3 wrote:I assume you're black.BLover wrote:Please, we all know why he left.![]()

Why do most of black people are always so defensive and easily offended?I mean I get there's a lot of racism in the world and I'm a huge supporter of the anti-intolerance movement but c'mon!
With their constant and innecesary complaints like the one you just said (because you're not even sure about that) you make racism a much bigger issue than racist people.
I don't think the audience is racist. I just think that the Urban acts, who are mostly black have a hard time to win this show, because there are so many country, rock & pop lovers, who are watching the show.pcdm3 wrote:So 'American Idol' audience is racist towards black contestants and even if they're far more talented the audience will always choose the white ones? No, Jessica used her growls sparingly and then she went too far and got called out over it (are we watching the same show). For me, she can't use it that well it comes off forced and cuts her melodic tone off. A comparison for me is Suga Mama by Beyonce, she manages to keep her tone throughout the notes. Obviously Jess will develop this.BLover wrote:Philip always sounds the same to me and nothing has been said about that.aaliyahman wrote:Remember when they criticised Jessica for using that growl (which I agree with because I hate it). Well she went and changed it as it is just one of the tricks she employs. Joshua kept on kept on and kept on using that same ending vein bursting screech but kept on using more and more of it.
And Jessica has gotten where she is thanks to her signature growls, which I love. Her last performances were dull, I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing was painfully annoying to hear imo.
Joshua's performances may sound forced to you but to me they sound emotional, passionate - the majority of times, of course.
A J&J finale would be brilliant, but this result was expectable and I also expect Phil to win.
It was. Another male winner... if Jessica can't win, I don't know what female can.BLover wrote:How predictable.
