No surprise?

She performed in front of 130k people in the UK... 9 songs of the album are included on the setlist... and she only managed to climb to #59 last week and sell 2,190 copies... and gone again this week.

Is that what you all were expecting??? Cause I read many many users expecting wonders!

And we're not talking about an album that has sold lots and was released a long time ago... But an album that has barely crossed 100k copies and was released 4 months ago.

The tour effect has been terrible.

I still remember some here claiming MDNA will cross 200k in the UK after the concerts there...

Same scenario for Germany, France... and many others. We haven't seen a big sales increase yet any week since the tour started.

We're all seeing how the tour is working. There's no doubt the boxscore is great and she's gonna be the #1 touring artist this year...

But, let's face it, NOTHING can save MDNA... not a tour, not a new single... people are not interested in this album or new music from her.

In France, it will be quite hard fo her to recover. Her Olympia has been a mere disaster. She hasn't had any good reviews for her album, her movie, worse, she had no magazine covers... Only appaling articles here and there.
The Olympia has worsened the situation, she is being ridiculed everyd day more and more.
Turn up the radio doesn't manage to get airplay and I don't think that from now on she will get anything from MDNA. All the people say that her French career is dead... The Olympia has been lived - I first - as a trauma !

Dear Lord how dramatic.... :o

Yeah MDNA didn't do well under every aspect....still the album menaged to sell 80K....which is bad for M standard, still cannot be considered a fiasco in this music market scenario.

She sold Out a date in a big stadium in paris....and it's going to sing in front of a great crowd in a stadium in Nice too....after all, I mean I wish everyone career to be dead this way, lol.

And at the end of this year worldwide MDNA will be one of the 20 best selling albums of the year. Not bad for an artist who is considered to be "over" :P

If MDNA will remain at the end of the year in the top20 biggest seller it would be great, on the other hand that will prove again how the market is down

I personally don't believe it will be able to manain the top 20: after october there will be plenty of releases, and sales "should" increase significantly.....we'll see.

Enjoy the articles :
http://news.google.fr/news/story?ncl=dV ... fr&topic=e

In all forums and in big newspapers readers just call her dead.
The worst is to watch the videos where she is called a whore and booed by her own fan at the Olympia, just 60 seconds after she left the stage.

^ People booed her just because they wanted to see more of the show, which was too short, as you can see indeed from every video the crowd at the Olympia was literally adoring her till the last note.

Btw Thanx for the article ....but couldn't care less of it honestly.I could fill pages and pages of article that claimed she is over since the early 90's

didn't Madonna herself said something like this at one Girlie Show performance back when her career was also "over"? :D

Just how many times she was deemed over by the media ('85, '87, '92, '93, etc etc)

i wonder what'll be the result on the Austrian charts, hope for the best of course

Is this the official Uk Airplay Chart?

Days ago someone here on the forum posted that TUTR was at #99, but I can't find it here.

Playing the Olympia was a magical moment for me and it was real treat to do this special show for my fans and be so close to them. Unfortunately at the end of the show – after I left the stage – a few thugs who were not my fans rushed the stage and started throwing plastic bottles pretending to be angry fans. The press reports have focused on this and not the joyous aspect of the evening. But nothing can take away or ruin this very special evening for me and my fans. When I looked out in the audience, everyone I saw had a smile on their face. I look forward to having this wonderful experience again.

Yes, but the thing is now that he is no longer 27, 29, 32 or 33 years old. She is 54 next month.

Now I am not saying that career slumps are due to age BUT it gets harder to reach a large audience like Madonna enjoyed in her past due to the length of her career.

Other artists like Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Lana Del Ray, Katy Perry are big now because they are considered relatively new and are young - this is what attracts the people who buy the music. And with the rise of digital sales it gives these artists even more of an advantage over more 'veteran' acts like Madonna.

Yes, she will always sell to her hard-core fans which is still large worldwide but it is difficult, as MDNA has proven, to get the decent sales figures she enjoyed in her past. This is just fact based on its performance - no opinion from me and I thought it would do better.

I mean not even selling 150K in the UK is bad but then you also have to consider the poor state of the album market. Elton John just got to number 1 but sold less then 15K. This week he sold just over 7k and is on 22K. Terrible figures! It only seems a few artists such as Adele can enjoy sales that were enjoyed in the past.

Maybe a year from now MDNA will have sold around 200K in the UK which isn't bad compared to the market but its still bad compared to her sales of previous studio albums even American Life!

2 things:

1* It's true! There is no hope for MDNA to gain more significant sales in any main market. I don't see how it could reach 2 million worldwide. For an artist that has been around more than 30 years is not that bad.

2* I don't see how her career could be dead for a controversial show in Paris... not even in France! Some media could declare her dead but it's not gonna happen. It's not even going to damage the MDNA tour image. It's just an isolated weird event.

Well TMZ is reporting that supporters of Le Pen went in with the idea of making trouble, so if her PR machine goes quickly they can change the press to make her look positive.

Well, show me another woman still selling as strong as Madonna does after 30 years. If MDNA is very bad for her standarts, that's because she set her standarts very, very high.

She'll definitely recover in France. Wait till she announces her next tour stop in Paris and tickets go on sale.

Her BEST career move was the RIT. I stand by that. She completely rebounded from the backlash of AL....while still playing AL songs.
