03. BRAZIL

Image

Ivete Sangalo is the best-selling Brazilian singer of the last decade (over 10 million albums and 3,5 million DVDs) and the most popular act of the present in Brazil. She has been nominated for Latin Grammy 14 times and collects duets with several artists, e.g., Shakira, Nelly Furtado, Dave Matthews Band, Roberto Carlos, Alejandro Sanz, Juanes, Gilberto Gil, B. J. Thomas, etc.

The song I choose is titled Acelera Aê ('Accelerate'). It's the first single off her lastest album, Ivete Sangalo: Live At Madison Square Garden (2010), recorded during her sold-out concert at MSG on September 4, 2010.

I hope you like her! :D

P.S.: It's not a cover version. Brazilian people love live recordings, that's why the official version of this song is live.

Chorus:
"Le temps s'enfuit, s'envole s'en va
il est un passant qui jamais ne revient sur ses pas
laissant derrière lui regrets ou joies,
le passé passe, le présent est, le futur le sera..."

Sébastien Tellier - Pépito Bleu (2012)

Sébastien has not released a proper studio album since the magnificent "Sexuality" from 2008, which he released after having participated in the Eurovision Song Contest. This is the first single (?) from his upcoming album "My God Is Blue". Enjoy!

Úlfur Úlfur — Ég er farinn

TAKEN FROM ICELAND AIRWAVES
Úlfur Úlfur (Wolf Wolf) is a recently formed rap group, settled by three guys – Arnar, Helgi and Bjössi. two of them have been working closely for almost 10 years and the third one, Bjössi, just recently joined in because he is quite cool. Arnar and Helgi's collaboration started when it's they, then 13 and 14 years old, started busting rhymes together in recess in elementery school at their hometown, Sauðárkrókur. Today the live together in a castle where they spend most of their spare time making music and playing FIFA.

In 2008 they formed a band with three of their friends called Bróðir Svartúlfs, and under it's wings they won Músíktilraunir (the icelandic Battle of the bands) in 2009 and released an EP album the same year. With Bróðir Svartúlfs they played all around the country with almost every musician that has ever been in an icelandic band for the next year and a half but in early 2011 the five of them decided to take a brake from each other. That's when Úlfur Úlfur was born.

Úlfur Úlfur is first and foremost a popgroup with rap in the mainframe, but they tend to spice it with every artist – regardless of music genre – that inspires them. One might say that they look beyond the boundaries of pop/rap music, but that might be a little exaggerated. It's for you to find out, bro.

Their first release, dropping this summer/fall, will be filled with goodies, guest acts from unlikely musicians and emotions that are gonna make you ROFL and cry, both at the same time. Recently they started doing gigs and everyone (at least one pretty hot chick) who has seen them has the same thing to say: This wolf can eat me. The other ones were also happy.

The music style, Elvana music contains features of R & B, hip hop and pop/dance. But Elvana themselves, as she explained in interviews, does not want to consolidate into one genre, but always write different songs. Her fashion is varied and will depend on its own designer created again and again. In her latest album contains a lot of dance songs.

Translation
My steps have hidden in your shadow,
We haven’t seen each other for a long time,
Behind them, has remained the voice I still sometimes hear.
I dreamed how you were smiling in the mirror with your clean face,
The world has changed since we have split
And it’s hard, it’s hard to forget you.

If the sky could bring you in my life,
I would hold a star in my hand to have you.
I will tell you when you come,
Things you know I told you and
You want to hear again.

The world has ended in the moment
You kissed me for goodbye
I ask myself if I am punished not to see you.
I passed over everything I loved, but I didn’t think back then.
The world has changed since we have split
And it’s hard, it’s hard to forget you.

If the sky could bring you in my life,
I would hold a star in my hand to have you.
I will tell you when you come,
Things you know I told you and
You want to hear again.

Now that the night is coming, I want you near me,
Your scent on the pillow brings back my memories.
If the sky could bring you in my life,
I would hold a star in my hand to have you.
I will tell you when you come,
Things you know I told you and
You want to hear again.
Love of God is not always the same as love of good. - Herman Hesse

Bag Raiders - Way Back Home

Image

Bag Raiders are a Sydney house DJ duo who released their self-titled debut album towards the end of 2010, with this the first single (technically) released from it. Way Back Home also made it into the Triple J Hottest 100 countdown of 2010 at #46 and the next single from the album Sunlight (feat Dan Black) was my 2nd favourite song of last year.

I do believe this was a minor hit of sorts in Germany and has been used in a Vodafone advert. I know at least 1 UKMIXer participating knows this song, but I don't care. :P
