I'm sorry but this, in reality, doesn't come down to opinion. Judging Vocal ability is not subjective at all - a reason why only a handful of contestants make through X factor auditions.

I will have to completely disagree that Beyonce or Christina are better. Mariah started to absolutely suck live (save an one-off brilliant performance now and then) but the first 5-6 years of her career were pure, invaluable gold.
Exactly! Mariah was brilliant live for 7 years of her career. She was good again in 2003/04 and the start of 05! There is so much ignorance being spoken in this thread and the word "opinion" is being used as a cover up!

I just can't at people saying that Beyonce and Christina are more talented vocalists than MARIAH CAREY!

It's not even from her prime, and yet, there aren't many singers who can do stuff like that ^.

P.S. It's not a boring ass ballad; it's a Christmas song.
I love Joy To The World so much.

As a skilled vocalist, Mariah was absolutely sensational - THIS is my calling card whenever I need to prove why she's one of the top 3 female vocalists of all-time. Ain't nobody can do that sh!t.

One of her best live performances! You could pick any or all of them from the first few years of her career.

Well, that one's a bit overused. People always pull that one out.

EDIT: It's funny how confident she used to be back then. It was directly proportional to how she used to sound on stage...

Anyway, can you PM me some completely live CD performances? It's a task to search on YT...

A mess.

The current Mariah is as shit as they come, but please do not come for the first 7 years of her career. She did shit with her voice Christina, Beyonce, their extended families & descendants will never do.

DEAD!!!   But I completely agree except I wouldn't say the current Mariah is as shit as they come. We have no clue what her voice is like and apart from "Memoirs" she can still slay most people on a record!!

I'm not a fan of very big voices (they make me tired lol), but if I had to choose one, I'd choose Beyonce over Mariah/Aguilera etc
As a vocalist Beyonce is insanely talented, I'm not a fan ( I prefer Britney by far) but ever since I've seen Halo/Hope for Haiti I'm convinced that Beyonce is the most talented vocalist in the whole world lol

I prefer singers like Lana & Adele, they rock my world, together with Madonna, Janet & Britney

Have any of the lambs seen this?

I didn't know she was such an amazing interpreter.

Yes! It's one of her best performances. For Mariah it's always not been about the big vocals. It's what the fans want all the time but not Mariah.

When people try to come for Mariah and her level of talent, I can't help but smile.

As for preferences? You prefer who you prefer. It doesn't change anything.

Another thing that's hilarious is that people tend to equate power with emotion and volume with skill?

But you know what else is funny?

Too many people put too much stock in live performances...

There's no question: live performances are invaluable...

...but pure, unadulterated musicianship can neither be showcased easily nor can it be replicated easily in a live setting.

And what's funny is that people subconsciously tend to pick and choose which performances are live and which ones are not regardless if there is any evidence or not.

And for TIfan...you're an huge Alicia Keys fan right?

Here's something to think about it. Let's say you have two different but very talented people.

One of the individuals shines brighter when they have the time to sit down in a quiet room. Once they think about it, they can come up with a brilliant concept and make music and/or art. Whereas, when they display their talent in public settings, they have their moments but there's just so many extenuating circumstances and thoughts running through their head, they come off as frazzled, inconsistent or just flat-out bad.

The other individual can range somewhere between horrible and competent enough in the more cerebral settings. But this same person can just get up on stage, in front of other people and shut it down like no other. And unlike most, they will continue to consistently shut it down. But sit them down, with a pen, a piece of paper or a keyboard and a little drumkit and then you realize you've had a problem.

Tell me this: who's the better musician/artist? Who's viewed as the better intellect? Who's the better singer (when I say singer, I mean singer in the most musical of sensibilities)?

Which is the better half: the entertainer or the musician?

It's a classic case of Mozart v. Gerswhin or Bach v. Debussy....

It's not about who has the bigger, longer, harder stick?

It's about who uses what they were given better.

You may laugh, but let us watch this video where she puts all of your faves to shame in 20 seconds 8-) I understand that most of you don't actually know what she's capable of, 'cause she saves the absolute best for her fans (concerts).

Yeah she isn't bad at the old warbling but seriously the most talented artist/singer in the whole world? You really need to listen to more artists. :P I don't mean it offensively.

I really can't decide on who is the most talented artist/vocalist I've ever heard there are so many mind-blowing artists out there, most of them can be found in my chart coincidently.  8-)

Whatever keeps you warm at night, crazycrazy.

Calling her the most talented singer in the world is going overboard...

...but Beyonce be throwing it down.

On a personal note I just don't like her tone, her voice is too warbly for me, it makes me feel ill.
