So based on their singles, One Direction and The Wanted were equally successful, but when it comes to albums, The Wanted's wasn't able to hold a candle to One Direction's :o ...

It is pretty weird... although be honest, I think that if the The Wanted actually bothered to put out a proper album their album sales wouldn't be quite as low as they are now, but I doubt they could match One Direction's longevity.

Why would it make a difference whether The Wanted "put out a proper album" or have the one that's charting at the moment?

No "introductory" promo yet. Pretty much every new Western acts needs some kind of proper promo and introduction to sell well there! I remember when Kesha had sold like 25k of Animal (granted, still more than this, but that's besides the point), but then after a visit from her to the country with a small promo tour and some TV appearances, sales skyrocketed to over 140k in total.
