:o

Roseanne is just about the greatest sitcom that ever was :D
yeah.. laurie metcalf alone would make this show one of the alltime greats. I secretly loved her always more than roseanne herself.
Same here. I loved the character of Roseanne too of course, but Jackie and Darlene were the real secret ingredients that made the show so great. Laurie's three Supporting Actress Emmys speaks for itself. It is funny watching the reruns and seeing how Johnny Galecki looks about five years older than he did as David, and that was almost 20 years ago

Roseanne was on here, daytime at some point I think, and on Channel 4. It never was particularly huge though. I've never really got/cared for US situation comedy in general though - it's the one thing I've always felt the UK does far better!

Oh, I figured it was something like Friends that really won over the UK because I have a friend from there who was a huge Roseanne fan.

I think UK sitcoms have an advantage and a disadvantage, their shows get straight to the point, 6 episodes a season so they have no time to waste, so they have to keep quality whereas US sitcoms can be bogged down with filler episodes, but at the same time, when you have 24 episodes to work with, you spend more time with the characters and everything. Roseanne for example was on nine years and over 200 episodes, so when you get to the series finale you're really sad because you've been on such a journey with these characters. Even though I always hated the last 10 minutes of the last Roseanne episode which was basically that the entire series has been a fiction story the Roseanne character had been writing to cope with life, and that Dan had died and the whole storyline of him having an affair was actually her anger at him dying on her and that Jackie was a lesbian, etc...

Sorry, but I've never really "got" US sitcoms - and that includes the very little I've seen of both Frasier and Seinfield. I know that people rave about the Big Bang Theory - but I've never tried it out. X-Files I never really got into, and I've never heard OF "Cougar Town" before :-?

Two of my votes fell in that area though - the fantastic "Countdown" and "Pointless". Given the nature of some of the people on UKMIX, particularly those in Chart Analysis, I had hoped one or other of these might pick up some other points, but I guess people preferred to vote for fictional shows rather than game shows.

So - I voted for three of the top 10, and none of them are really that surprising. One I guess I'm rather pleasantly surprised is so high - the other two I'm hoping will be in the top 3!

Shocked Seinfeld missed the top ten. Never was a huge fan of it, but shocking nonetheless.

I can't believe The Fresh Prince of Bel Air missed the countdown altogether. Definitely one of the essential 90s television shows.

We already know what #1 is going to be....

15 FRASIER - Meh.

14 SEINFELD - Probably my favorite 90s sitcom. Hated it when I was younger, but the reruns a few years ago made me love it, probably cause I finally got their jokes.

13 COUGAR TOWN - This one is just brilliant. One of, if not the best new comedy. All characters are just amazing and every episode makes me laugh. <3

12 THE BIG BANG THEORY - Never got the whole fuss about it, watched it a few times, but I haven't laughed at all.

11 THE X-FILES - Deserving of it's high place, loved watching it as a kid even thoguh the theme song creeped the hell out of me.

No, I know this is a UK forum for the most part, but Seinfeld is probably the defining television program of the last 25 years. I don't know if people feel the same way over there, but that doesn't change what I mentioned at all.

Oh, I know! I have a friend who loves the show, and tells me that I "don't understand the humor". The amount of expletives that I wanted to say to him were massive.

This is a show about nerds doing nerdy things, and somehow that's funny. I watched it for a while, because I thought it'd get funny, but nope! Never got funny for me. Community, on the other hand, is a nerd show for nerds. The amount of nerdiness on that show > the faux nerds on The Big Bang Theory.

What other show . would do these . craaaazy . things?

In conclusion, if I could recommend only one episode of this amazing show, it would be Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. My favorite episode of the show so far. Hope someone watches it! <3

Not over here. It would probably be one of two shows that are both still to come (and are quite possibly the top 2 in this countdown) - both of which are American and arguably both of which are comedy - though one isn't normally though of as a sitcom.

I agree. Especially considering how loved Friends is on UKMix, I don't know many people who honestly think Friends was more innovative, fresh and original as Seinfeld was. Friends became downright cliche and predictable in its latter years when it became comfortable with itself, Seinfeld was still creating classic episodes even into its final season (The Butter Shave, Festivus, etc...). Even the series finale completely defied logic by sending our four fave characters to prison, instead of the cliche series finale endings when characters have babies, get married, etc...

I'm not the worlds biggest Seinfeld fan or anything, but I think that sitcom was as revolutionary as Lucy. Nowadays sitcoms are seen in two era, pre-Seinfeld, post-Seinfeld. Pretty much every US sitcom that premiered after it in the 90s structured itself after it in some form or fashion.

Very odd to see Cougar Town in the same bunch as Frasier, Seinfeld, and The X-Files, especially since it was only prevented from being cancelled this month by moving to cable.

BBT is a classic in the making. My entire family watches it together and often ROTFL. Leonard was me in college, except I couldn't get the Pennys of UCLA to give me the time of day. :P

Cougar Town is cute, but surprised at how high it ranks here, since it ranks above many bonafide classics.

Big Bang is still entertaining, but I think quality-wise it has already peaked and is slowly entering predictable Friends territory. The first 2-3 seasons when it was the guys being nerdy outcasts with Penny on the outside looking in when the show was best, I loved Raj's line a few episodes back when he expressed being sick that the romance stories have taken over, he was echoing the sentiment of many fans.

If it wasn't for QAF I would have never played Sigur Rós in my life.

This scene remains as one of the saddest I've ever seen

FRASIER

Was the first ever TV show I have ever watched, I was 7-8 and fell in love with it.

SINFIELD

Never was a huge fan but whenever it is on I watch and I laugh.

COUGAR TOWN

This show is one of the most underrated shows in recent times, the brilliance of the writing and characters is amazing, deserved spot.

THE BIG BANG THEORY

My favorite new comedy in recent time, sometimes I laugh so hard I get tears in my eyes, Brilliant, It's so popular now, but when I started watching the show nobody in my country knew about it, and then the show got even bigger in the US and everybody here started watching and loved, and I was like yeah I know, I'm watching the show for 3 years now

Cougar Town is so brilliant. Its audience may be small but those who watch it stan hard for it. The writing, the acting, the characters are all brilliant. It has the best ensemble of any TV show since Friends.

I can handle The Big Bang Theory in small doses but the laughing is too loud and irritating plus Sheldon is the most unlikeable main character in a TV show ever.
