I don't know about that...I've got a song I might want to use later (from New Zealand) which apparently samples an Isley Brothers song. Not sure if that IB song is well known though.

I voted 'no' to covers, but I don't see any problem in small samples or excerpts, if that's the case.

Yeah samples are hard because most songs sample something these days so it'd be a bit too much to have to research every song to see if it's sampling something you haven't heard perhaps.

Ever wondered how Australians do hip-hop, rapping in their own accents and all? Well, my entry this month should somewhat answer that question for you.

Illy (real name Al Murray) is a Melbourne rapper who cut his musical teeth as a member of Crooked Eye before going solo and releasing his debut album Long Story Short 3 years ago. He released his 2nd album The Chase in 2010, from which this collaboration with fellow Victorian Owl Eyes (real name Brooke Addamo) was spawned. Owl Eyes herself is a former Australian Idol contestant (which I’m sure she’d prefer to forget) who released her Faces EP in 2010 and her single Raiders last year. She’s also well known for her cover of Foster The People’s Pumped Up Kicks.

I admit I’d always wanted to like this song, but it wasn’t until I picked up the yearly Triple J Hottest 100 compilation last year (this song coming from 2010, reaching #29 on that countdown) that I began to enjoy it. Now I hope you all enjoy it too.
