BeeFan: "Darkchild" TOP 30 [fin]

It is the late 90's when a song threw me in the world of R&B. It wasn't only for the artist, the producer had a huge impact of my following taste of music.
His name is Rodney Jerkins, better known as Darkchild.
I'm here to celebrate my personal favorites of his works. Since then music took a long road, even in my taste, but the truth is, most of these songs still rock my world 8-)

30. If I Told You That (Whitney Houston) 1999
First released on the My Love Is Your Love album it later got the single treatment as a duet with George Michael off of her Greatest Hits collection. The new version didn't do much for me and I'd always stick to the original.

29. Feedback (Janet Jackson) 2007
The lead single from Janet's Discipline album doesn't do much for me. Too electronical for my taste.

28. One Wish (Ray J) 2005
Brandys little brother had one of the biggest hits of his career in this track. Nice listen but too easy to forget.

Darkchild has produced so many classics, so I look forward to this.

If I Told You That - really good and really underrated.

Feedback - disappointed to see it so low. It's not a typical Darkchild production, but it's one of the best songs to be released in the past few years.

One Wish - it's ok, but became annoying and too mainstream amongst the teen crowd.

27. When I Grow Up (Pussycat Dolls) 2008
That's the lead single from the second Pussycat album. Pretty weak in my opinion but still a worldwide hit for them.

26. Can't Leave 'Em Alone (Ciara ft. 50 Cent) 2007
Taken from Ciara's second album this smooth midtempo became a moderate hit. It's enjoyable but I find myself skipping it quite often.

25. The One (Mary J. Blige ft. Drake) 2009
Doesn't sound like Darkchild but still a great listen. Kinda liked the dark feeling of the song and Drake's verse is awesome.

24. Just Can't Get Enough (The Black Eyed Peas) 2010
This marks the newest song on my countdown. Produced by Darkchild and of course Will.I.Am it's one of the more listenable songs of their last album, though I always skip the electro ending.

23. Don't Wanna Be A Player (Joe) 1997
More slowed down than most tracks of this countdown it's still a great song. I love Joe for giving me that mood everytime I listen to him :wink:

22. Right Here (Brandy) 2008
When putting together this list I realized I could fill a complete Darkchild countdown with just songs of Brandy. The two combined forces on several of her albums and I figured, it would be a little bit too boring to post every single song. I decided to make a roundup of her albums, so be sure this isn't the last time we're gonna meet Brandy on this countdown

Other Darkchild favorites from the Human album are Long Distance and The Definition

This new batch may suprise y'all because it is full of album cuts. Since we're entering the Top 20 it's also the last time I'm going to share three new tracks at the same time

21. Who Am I? (Will Smith) 1999
Taken from Will's Willennium album, the Tatyana Ali and MC Lyte assisted track is a classic Darkchild production IMO. Check it out if you don't know it.

20. Weekend Love (Spice Girls) 2000
Yes, I like the Spice Girls

Though their final album Forever wasn't any close to their previous success it still had some great tracks. I love this mid-tempo ballad. Starting with Emma's sweet vocals it turns into a great beat with the chorus and ends up with a rap from Mel B. Other great Darkchild productions from the album are Time Goes By, Tell Me Why, Let Love Lead The Way and... well, we'll see later

19. That's The Way (Jennifer Lopez) 2001
J.Lo and Darkchild got quite the history but this marks one of their best album cuts. Taken from the J.Lo album it is one of my favorites from that record. Always hoped for a single release but it never happened to be.

After the 20YO album I didn't listen to her new stuff that much... I was pretty disappointed by Discipline

sorry to say, but no :oops:

I initially listed Overprotected (which is awesome), but then I remembered that it was only the weaker remix that was produced by Darkchild. The other stuff, which is mostly her covers of Satisfaction and I Love Rock'n'Roll, didn't do that much to me, to be honest.

Hopefully you'll still follow this countdown anyway :wink:

"One Wish" is sorta nice. I remember liking it back in the day.

"When I Grow Up" is catchy, but then "I Hate This Part" was released and I totally neglected "When I Grow Up" afterwards.

"Right Here" was a song that I used to love back when it was released! I remember playing that song over and over and over 'til I think I made myself sick of it. :lol:

"Just Can't Get Enough" is one of the few BEP songs that I love.

18. What About Us (Brandy) 2002
Another position for the wonderful Brandy. As I said, I wanted to roundup her albums because there are just so many great Darkchild productions. The Full Moon era was first represented by this song, which showed a more futuristic and electronic style of production IMO. Actually I liked the Simon Vegas Remix to that song a little bit more :wink:

Another outstanding Darkchild production is It's Not Worth It which features background vocals from Michael Jackson. All in all a great album, though it didn't come close to her previous work.
More tracks are I Though, All In Me, Can We, Anybody and some more.

17. I'm Good (Blaque) 2003
The best thing about the dance movie Honey probably was the soundtrack. One of the best tracks is this. I just love the beat and don't understand why it underperformed so badly. I'm not sure...was it the last Blaque single ever?

30. If I Told You That - one of my favoured Whitney songs but then again, I like everything on this album.
29. Feedback - straight one of the best songs of Janet's in the past 20 years. Easily. Also, brilliant workout song.
28. One Wish - loved it when it first came out. Still my favourite of his.
27. When I Grow Up - yeah nah. Least favourite Darkchild track.

25. The One - Not my fave again, but good.

22. Right Here. Love this. Personally I reckon Darkchild's done better work with B, but this is cool.
21. Who Am I? Whoah, I thought I was one of the few people who knew about this song. Will and Tatyana together are great and I still play this.
