No figure for the top album?
There's only one Queen
and that's MADONNA.

If this was compiled by IRMA, then the list would have been since 1992. Anyway, "Talk On Corners" by the Corrs must be near that top 5.

These aren't the best selling albums of "all time", but the best selling albums from 1992 to 2012. The title of this topic should be edited.

Such a rude and ridiculous response. Shame.

I'm not surpised, coming from you. In the end, all you only ever do in this forum is spam and coming up with short, one liners that generally bring nothing to this forum.
I even thanked you for the stuff you brought in here, and look what you tell me in return.

And now, I'm just stating a fact: these are the best selling albums from 1992 to 2012, not the best selling albums ever. You should change and adjust the title of this topic so as not to mislead other people. As simple as that.

Don't insult me, because even though it isn't my style, I can also insult you too. And trust me, you will lose.

Funny how you mentioned Queen in here. I didn't do it myself this time around.

Now now, there's no need to bring up Queen in here. I can't say for certain whether or not this started in the late 80s or not - but I'm sure someone will be able to post a source in here to confirm.

Well said, Matthew.

I asked Daniela Bindl, from IRMA, about it and this is what she told me:

"Yes, those would be the Top 5 Albums for the last 20 years".

So yes, from 1992 to 2012. As simple as that.

I don't post crap, I never do that. I can make mistakes (not this time), but I don't tell lies or make up things.

I've been looking everywhere to find chart positions and weeks in chart for albums in Ireland, but i've had no luck. Is there any site where we can find this information?

You can check this site...

----

The top 5 must have really huge sales...
In the past, we had albums with extremely high certifications (Crazy Love with 15x P, Back To Bedlam with 14x P (could be 16x P by now), 21 with propably 18x P or Talk On Corners with 20x P) and still this wasn't enough for them to reach the top 5...

Thanks for that site. I'd love to see years before 2000, maybe around 1987-1992? Does anyone know if there's a book out there that has this information?

Sorry Stephen - no albums book available, in fact there hasn't even been a singles book since 1985 and that only went up to the end of 1983! There was never much attention paid to the album chart until RTE started including the Top 20 in their weekly chart show around September 1990. The format of the 2 hour show was that they devoted the first hour to the albums and the second one to the singles. They started off by playing tracks from the albums from 15 to 2 (usually skipping a couple of the lower ones) and then there was a full Top 20 rundown before the number 1. I seem to remember that there was also some kind of album chart show in the late 80s quite late on a Sunday evening but I can't remember any details on it.

Yeah....one of the biggest bands of all time, and Irish to boot. Not a surprise at all that their greatest hits of the 80s sold hugely in Ireland.

@Shakyfan: So there is also no chart archive for let's say after November 1998?
Because I'd really like to devise the chart run of U2's Best Of 1980-1990...

I have no idea when the album charts started but the earliest I can be certain of them being in existence would be around 1988/89 as I remember hearing something on 2FM at that point. They were published in the RTE Guide in the early 90s (Top 30s) and around the same time they counted down the Top 20 on the radio as I said above. I think some editions of the Sunday World newspaper have printed them since then and they were available each week on Aertel - the Irish teletext service.

However to the best of my knowlege there are no charts prior to January 2000 available online.

Apart from some from 1975 that beatlened posted here:

http://www.ukmix.org/forums/viewtopic.p ... 5&start=50

So they had certainly initially been compiled quite some time before the end of the last century!

And, as noted in our 1988 to 1990 thread, from 23rd September 1990 the weekly chart show on 2FM switched to an hour of the singles chart and an hour on the albums - which meant that I only tuned in for the singles hour! - and this apparently continued until 14th May 1999.
