Time to revel the Top 2 and what's my fav song of the decade.
2. Lady GaGa - Poker Face
Just Dance was probably my fav song of the summer 2008. Yet, I did consider GaGa as a one hit wonder back then and I didn't know that there were better things to come with her second single. Poker Face didn't really hit me upon first listen in September that year. I thought it was way too similar to Just Dance and found it flat. A few weeks later, I became obsessed to this, I needed to listen to this several times a day. I suppose that this pounding beat, the 'mamamama' and those 'can't read my, can't read my', had unconsciously buried well into my brain.
I just want to dance like an idiot when that chorus blows out. The melody is just irresistible. This is what pop music should be.
The video increased my love for this song even more. It's very simple and quite basic. I mean what we have here: a girl with a fairly terrible blonde wig in a hella weird blue outfit dancing to a poor choregraphy next to a swimming pool. I would normally hate it. Yet, it works extremely well here for some reason that still eludes me. The magic of pop I suppose. As strange as it may sound, this is possibly one of my fav videos of the past decade.
Poker Face is my favourite GaGa song. I've listened to this so many times I've lost count. However, I've never got bored of it. Even though I've enjoyed the Born This Way album, I'd like her to come back to this kind of music / videos, not overproduced songs like some stuff of her latest LP was. This is exactly where she excels.
And the #1 IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS *drumroll*
Crazy Frog - Axel F
NOPE, I'M JOKING. That dirge's nowhere near #1 (thank God).
The real #1 actually is:
1. Coldplay - Clocks
Congratulations to Spartan and Play who guessed my #1 correctly. My favourite band take the top spot with the second single of A Rush Of Blood To The Head. To be honest, I like it almost as much as Poker Face. I decided to put Clocks at the top for two reasons: I've had more time to fully digest it: 10 years against heardly 4 for Poker Face.
This song, and even the parent album, have accompanied through many important and stages of my life. I have so many memories related to this song actually. Well, this is very subjective but all of this gave Clocks the edge of Poker Face.
Musically, this sounds like your typical Coldplay song. That atmospheric piano grabs you just as soon as the song starts. It also has a slight nightly feel that I just love too. This is really great to listen to it after midnight. I don't have much else to say about it. Overall, this is one of my favourtie songs of all time, the best Coldplay song and my favourite song this decade.
Thanks to everyone (i.e. 5 people
