Jessica Simpson is a mom!

The star and her fiancé Eric Johnson welcomed daughter Maxwell Drew Johnson on May 1, she announced on her website.

"Eric and I are elated to announce the birth of our baby girl, Maxwell Drew Johnson," she wrote. "We are grateful for all the love, support and prayers we have received. This has been the greatest experience of our lives!!"

The baby weighed in at 9 lbs. 13 oz. and is 21¾ inches long. Maxwell is Johnson's middle name, while Drew is Simpson's mother Tina's maiden name.

Simpson announced her pregnancy on Halloween, posting a picture of herself on Twitter dressed as a mummy and cradling her belly. "It's true – I'm going to be a mummy," she wrote.

In March, she shared the news that a baby girl was on the way as she posed nude on the cover of ELLE. Weeks later, Simpson celebrated her baby shower.

Maxwell is the first child for Simpson, 31, and Johnson, 32, who had a whirlwind romance. The singer and the former NFL player started dating on May 2010 and were engaged six months later.

for some reason I thought she had the baby already since it seemed like tabloid media talked about her weeks ago as if she'd already popped.

I was listening now to "I wanna love you forever" :o I forgot how powerful her vocals are in that song. She should sing it now to her baby girl as ballad 8-)

 Media were talking about how she announced her pregnancy at the same time as Beyonce and Beyonce's baby girl was born so quick and Jessica was taking centuries

Her career as a pop star/country star is over...

She's a business-woman nowadays because she failed in the music industry.. 'With You' was my jam back in 2004 though

I Agree. But I'm happy she's a successful multi-million business woman  She didn't end up like those emotionally weak artists that kill themselves or end up found dead with overdose. People critized her and called her dumb blond, but now she has a wealthy business, she must not be that dumb  8-)

Just because she isn't "hot" anymore doesn't mean she should just stop. After all there are artists who haven't had hits since the 70s and 80s who still make music because they care about what they do.

Congratulations to Jessica! I love many of her albums! Another thing is, she also seems to have a nice personality as well. For someone who's been attacked in the media for having mostly unsuccessful attempts in her music career, looking big and unflattering after The Dukes of Hazzard, being called dumb and stupid, and many more, she still managed to be happy and successful in her personal life and business career, her fashion empire is worth $1 billion already!! 8-) 8-)

Well... I think she actually gave up on music.. I remember I read that both Simpson sisters gave up on music because of their constant flops :( such a shame because as I said I really loved Jessica's "With You" and Ashlee's "Little Miss Obsessive" was amazing song!

I thought the baby was a boy too! Anyway, the name is much better than Ashlee Simpson's son 'Bronx Mowgli' or Mariah Carey's son 'Moroccan'...

I thought it was a really nice name until I re-read the title and realised she'd had a girl. :o

Congrats anyway!

Honestly her flops weren't that bad. She kept managing top 10 albums in the US. "In This Skin" was pretty huge around 2003-2004 if I recall as well. People just constantly compare her with Britney since she came out at the same time and find her career unfavorable in comparison.

A shame if she gave up because her sales weren't what she expected.

2000 Sweet Kisses - Platinum (1.000.000) Peak: #25
2001 Irresistible - Gold (500.000) Peak: #6
2003 In This Skin - 4 x Platinum (4.000.000) Peak: #2
2004 Rejoyce: The Christmas Album
- Gold (500.000) peak: #16 (?)
2006 A Public Affair - Gold (500.000) peak #5
2008 Do You Know - N/A Cert (~ 300.000) Peak #4

The success of A Public Affair was killsed with releasing a single that was not in the album. How stupid was that?
