Lyrics:

GUARDIAN

You, you who has smiled when you’re in pain
You who has soldiered through the profane
They were distracted and shut down

So why, why would you talk to me at all
such words were dishonorable and in vain
their promise as solid as a fog

and where was your watchman then

I’ll be your keeper for life as your guardian
I’ll be your warrior of care your first warden
I’ll be your angel on call, I’ll be on demand
The greatest honor of all, as your guardian

you, you in the chaos feigning sane
You who has pushed beyond what’s humane
Them as the ghostly tumbleweed

And where was your watchman then

I’ll be your keeper for life as your guardian
I’ll be your warrior of care your first warden
I’ll be your angel on call, I’ll be on demand
The greatest honor of all, as your guardian

now no more smiling mid crestfall
No more managing unmanageables
No more holding still in the hailstorm

Now enter your watchwoman

I’ll be your keeper for life as your guardian
I’ll be your warrior of care your first warden
I’ll be your angel on call, I’ll be on demand
The greatest honor of all, as your guardian

This is awesome! Only heard it once but it's a lot rockier than what I thought it would be! Going to keep it repeat now. 8-)

this sounds so much like song from her last album (in terms of melody and production) which is awesome thing as I think it's her best record to date.

it won't be a hit though...

I've played this so much already! I think it's really fantastic and definately has that classic Alanis sound!

The wonderful thing about Alanis and her material is that regardless of the first single (whether you like or not), it is never indicative of the album. "Underneath" gave us a taste of "Flavors Of Entanglement", but that album had so many other elements and surprises to it.

This is like a rocky fusion of 'Underneath' and 'Torch'. I like it lots, good to have her back with us! <3

Listening...I like it, it reminds me of something. It's just nice, underwhelming on first listen for me. :(

It doesn't matter, I won't give up on the album, I found "Underneath" slightly better than this but quite dull and too safe at first but the album was fantastic. :D

Underneath was the Perfect Single. This sounds a bit Underwhelming. But still looking forward to the record.

I've just downloaded Flavors of Entanglement and listened for the first time. I've only really had her Greatest hits and Jagged Little Pill Studio and Acoustic before. Wow FOE might be her best Work I am thinking! Underneath, Tapes and In Praise Of The Vulnerable Man are the standouts so far.
Got a bottle of whatever but "Let's Get In This Truck" wtf

NOT AS WEas well! I also adore uptempo/harder "Version Of Violence" :D :D

hey man! go and download SUPPOSED FORMER INFATUATION JUNKIE album! it's her best effort in my opinion, you're gonna love it but you've got to discover and develop the mood for the album and then you'll fall for it

The song is okay, but the chorus sounds lazy :-? It's simply the same melody repeated in four lines. I doubt this will be a hit, or even chart.

But still looking forward to her album, I was disappointed in Underneath during the FOE era, but Incomplete became one of my favourite all time tracks by Alanis
8-)

She'll be performing this on Dancing With The Stars next Tuesday! :o

That's already some great promo!

Then on May 22nd.... Ellen Degeneres! At least she's showing the U.S. that she is back - well in advance of the album's release date in August!

I really like it, very commercial! In her hey day it would've been a hit but now she's in the same bracket as most other 90s survivors.

^ Agreed, this is very commercial! It definately has the potential to be a hit, but because of her 'age' and 'experience' in the music industry, it'd be remarkable if it charts in the UK or US I guess...

I'm obsessed with this now. 8-)

So true. No Alanis collection is complete without it. Of course it isn't instant like JLP but it is so good when you give it a chance
