Credited useless features & uncredited important feature

So, mention some collaborations which in your opinion, useless features are credited OR important features are not credited

Credited useless features:
- Janelle Monae on We Are Young, i can't really hear her vocal after she sings 'carry me home tonight' 4 times
- Calvin Harris on We Found Love, he's the producer but i can't even hear where his part is on the song
- Nicki Minaj and MIA on Gimme All Your Luvin, both of their parts are too short and don't add anything new for the song, clearly just to make sure the song charting high on the chart
- Timbaland on Apologize single version, Timbaland just keeps saying 'eeh' repetitiously, and why it's credited as Timbaland featuring OneRepublic on the chart?

Uncredited important features:
- Trey Lorenz on I'll Be There, he's just Mariah's background singer but still, it's even a true duet
- Justin Timberlake on Where Is The Love. Justin's vocal really add something special on this song
- Mariah Carey on Babyface's top 10 hit, Everytime I Close My Eyes, clearly we can hear her vocal easier than Janelle's part on We Are Young
- Ke$ha on Right Round, she's credited for a few weeks before her credited was removed after the song hit #1. Her part is the most interesting thing on the song imo.

I have to disagree with some of your selections. Though it's difficult to make her out separately, I'm pretty sure Janelle Monae does harmonies for all the choruses on "We Are Young." It does give the song a more anthemic group feeling than it would have if just the lead singer of fun. were singing it. And as you mentioned, she sings the "Carry me home tonight" parts. In fact I'd say she adds as much to the song as JT adds to "Where is the Love?"

As for Calvin Harris and Timbaland, that's just a trend of some producers taking artist credit for their work, which I somewhat agree with and somewhat disagree with. I don't like the fact that Timbaland added a new production to an already existing song and then called it his own, but in some others cases, the songs were conceptualized by the producers, and so it seems fair that they get credits.

Also, I thought Trey Lorenz was credited on "I'll Be There." Where does it say he's not credited?

"I'll be there" officially ranked as a Mariah's solo hit.

Interesting topic.

I feel Janelle Monae's vocal is pretty unimportant in 'We Are Young', however, she may have contributed more to the song than we are aware of (did she write it? compose it? etc.)

Ke$ha should have been credited everywhere on 'Right Round', luckily she was in Australia.

Timbaland claiming 'Apologize' was a bit of a shocker, but simultaneously we can only imagine that the song (and OneRepublic's career) never would have become what it became if that hadn't happened.

A truly useless credited feature would be the likes of Lil Wayne on 'Dedication To My Ex' or Kevin Rudolf on 'Just Say So'.

Calvin Harris was a deserved credit on 'We Found Love' even if he isn't vocally on the track. He was the sole writer and producer, Rihanna just did the vocals she was given.

Yes, he's not credited on the single cover, as well on Billboard chart. The song is officially credited as Mariah Carey - I'll Be There without Trey Lorenz name.

Uncredited important feature:
Rihanna - All of the Lights

In the Uk she was, but not in the US, not on BB HOT100 at least. Come on, she sings the chorus. She also appears in the video...
I know there are 76228891279 other features in the song but Rihanna's lack of credit was the most unfair one.

Prince's U Got The Look is a perfect example. Sheena Easton sang the chorus and her contribution to the song is one of the things people most love and remember, and yet it was credited solely to Prince, robbing Sheena of a #2 single on Billboard.

Yeah, she does and you can hear her clearly on the acoustic version.

Everyone deserves credit for all their work. Although adding "feat. [insert name]" to the song title isn't really necessary as long as their name is in the full credits.

It samples the melody of her song Boadicea and her vocal. She gets 60% of the royalties from that song. It's definitely not a useless credit.

Sheena Easton was a glaring ommission indeed!

Sarah Jane Morris on the Communards' Don't Leave Me This Way was too noticeable not to receive a credit as well.

Rockwell - Somebody's Watching Me

Michael makes that song and is probably the reason it was a hit.

A. R. Rahman & the Pussycat Dolls featuring Nicole Scherzinger
WTF is that BS???? Pussycat Dolls featuring Nicole Scherzinger?

Cheryl Cole feat. Calvin Harris - Call My Name He's not featured either...

FUN feat. Janelle Monae - We Are Young Definitely unimportant Leoapp!

I heard that Nicole got two paychecks for this song since she is featured as a solo act and as a member of the Pussycat Dolls!

Yep, found that random he was uncredited. Might've been record label drama where Epic might've not let Motown release it. I know Epic prevented Arista from releasing "Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming", a duet he and Jermaine had in 1984 as a single because there was no way they were going to let their biggest star have a hit on a rival label (when he worked with Paul McCartney, Paul was on Columbia at the time so they were under the same umbrella)

School Gyrls featuring Mariah Carey, anyone?

Anyway, nice topic. It'll just show half of the features are built to attract a wider audience to the track. In most cases, those collaborations are kept to a minimum.

OMG, forgot about this, the fact that The Pussycat Dolls don't even really sing in this song (Only Nicole sings 99,99% of the song), and Nicole is credited not as the main act, just a featured artist? It's just too funny
