I live in Latin America. From my point of view, "Poker face" was a huge smash between young people but "Rolling in the deep" had that all genres/all ages appeal. From kids to grandparents. I mean, I've seen women in their 50s buying Adele's album (never Gaga's).jpguy wrote:IMO "Rolling in the Deep" can't be the most influential... In my country RITD was a multi-genre smash! You could heart literally everywhere. Even gypsis played it on a streetargentino78 wrote:I live in Latin America. It was too huge in Indonesia, the hands moves were imitated like everyday, their album went multiplatinum here just with 1 popular song, ahh those were the daysabi wrote:Oh yeah forgot about that Ketchup song. It was HUUGGGEEEEEE! I still even remember the hands moves.

We belong together was a big (radio) hit in the States but sales wise, Hung Up sold considerably more, worldwide that is.stevyy wrote:according to Mediatraffic We Belong Together was the 3rd biggest hit of 2005 overall.. and the biggest hit by a solo artist and by a female.
But I doubt people outside the States remember "We Belong Together" much. It wasn't that big.BlueScorpion wrote:"We Belong Together" sold the album and had a great impact, because it was a career-defining moment for Mariah. And considering "Hung Up" topped like 50 countries, it isn't much remembered at all. Doesn't live up to such a record.
Both of those songs actually don't live up to their records. Those songs were indeed huge hits but the impact is more monumental to their careers rather than to the people or pop culture in that sense. Even "Since U Been Gone" and "Hollaback Girl" were more definitive moments of 2005 even if both weren't hailed as the top songs of that year.BlueScorpion wrote:"We Belong Together" sold the album and had a great impact, because it was a career-defining moment for Mariah.
