The ones who said "We Belong Together" must live either in the US or Philippines

No other explanation

LMAOOOO @ WE BELONG TOGETHER being the most succesful single or most iconic... it was obviously, the most succesful in the USA in the last decade... but I don't kow if people even remember that hit from 2005... Worldwide, it was a hit, not an iconic or mega hit, specially in Latin america and Africa, that song was nowhere close to being a mega highly succesful hit...
I see it as, if your song is succesful in Africa, the forgotten continent, it's because it clearly is a HUGE HIT.
"HipsDon't Lie" was an extremely succesful single in Africa and India, and the middle east... I doubt that happned with songs mentioned here...

That's OK but then we can't call it the "Most successful song of the 21st century by a female".

Btw I never heard WBT even once ...I listened to it, to repair my fault, few months ago for curiosity because of the big talk in some Mariah thread....but I honestly do not remember it.

Hung Up is another notable that should be up there. It was a modest hit in the States but I like it more than a lot of the releases from '05.

LOL.

It would have easily reached #1, but they released it soooo late (to help album sales) and by the time it was out, it was already old.

yes.. 300 something copies prevented it from debuting at #1. people tend to forget that 2005 cannot be compared to 2012 in terms of sales since the market evolved and shifted completely to downloads.

wbt however was indeed a decent hit.. only doing fabulously in the us and canada.. hung up was clearly the bigger hit ... everywhere else but the US.. which however accounted for 33% of the global music market in 2005. the song simply revived one of the biggest careers in music history.. that's all it did. songs like rolling in the deep..or hips don't lie or i gotta feeling have been much bigger.

every mariah stan can admit that.. and there are even more hits that did better.. by bands like moves like jagger..

I would probably throw my vote for "Umbrella" by Rihanna to be honest.

But I suppose it depends on where you're from.

a huge crowd in morocco.. singapore and other places where she quite recently did concerts might see it differently. it's so annoying to read something like that. there's nothing left to prove.

the only female of Mariah's generation (yes i count the queen, madonna to Mariah's generation) that was able to pull an equal return to dominance more than a decade into her career was Madonna with COADF.. (prior to that Cher made a pretty massive comeback as well.. and prior to that Tina Turner is to name..)..

but there are really only a handful of females that experienced such a resurrection.. and in the US.. Mariah's was clearly the biggest of them all.. internationally.. i cannot say.. cause Believe was pretty massive too.. so maybe it was Believe or COADF..
