BET kicked off the month of July with a bang, as Sunday’s BET Awards 12 drew 7.4 million total viewers and racked up over 10 million unique tweets, making it the #1 awards show on cable this year.
According to prnewswire.com, 4.4 million households tuned into show, which featured appearances by Kanye West, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Monica, Brandy D’Angelo, Chaka Khan, Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, Yolanda Adams, Tyler Perry, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly and many more.
The live telecast dominated social media as well Sunday. BET.com saw an 88 percent increase in daily unique viewers, and #BETAWARDS was the third highest social tentpole event of 2012, outperforming the Academy Awards. The hashtag averaged 23,932 tweets-per-minute during the live telecast, peaking at around 155,189 after the end of Kanye West’s amazing opening act.
BET also revealed new brand campaigns “We Got You” and “What’s Good,” marking the first time BET Networks has ever premiered two campaigns in one night.
Chief Marketing Officer and Executive VP of Marketing of BET Networks Vicky Free had this to say about the new campaigns.
“We created this campaign to convey to our core audiences, the African American community and lovers of black culture, that we clearly understand their needs and are committed to creating niche, unique and engaging programming exclusively for them.”

I remember when Trina didn't get voted last year because she didn't release an album/mixtape by a deadline or something. So since M.I.A or any of the other gorls don't have anything out, they just picked Diamond/Brianna Perry because they recently released mixtapes. It's obvious Nicki will win whomever they pick because she's the most successful female rapper, even though she's basically pop now which is embarrassing for the other gorlsabi wrote:One thing I don't understand about BET, why would they always pick these random female rappers to compete against Nicki Minaj on Best Female Hip Hop? I mean, M.I.A. could've been nominated so it would've been more fair.
