Madonna was a newlywed, artistic and gracefully cute back then she didn't have time for the disney graduates, but now she's menopaused, having her midlife crisis and plain pressed..

also, the fact that she skipped The Staple Singers' Respect Yourself makes this "shade" invalid!
I dont wanna agree with the bolded part but madge seems like she's trying to keep up & be cool with todays kids. And somehow Gaga is competition & a threath.

Gaga is only a threat because Madonna has made her one. When Britney and the sort emerged, Madonna was doing her own thing and it was never seen as competition, but of course now Madge is trying to keep fighting a losing battle and winning over the teens who don't care about granny.

I notice the main complaint M's getting is that the whole Born This Way comparison thing is so Feb 2011, if she think she's being clever she isn't.

So sad that young'uns here probably have no idea that Madonna used to be ahead of the pack and was the one setting the trends in the 80's and 90's considering the last two albums have been her hopping on bandwagons that were dated by the time the studio time was set.

And she was also singing "She's No Me" inbetween the 2 songs as well so its pretty obvious.

One comment: Madge is not pressed about bring a legend to someone 2 albums in. She finds the carbon copy "interesting" and there is nothing wrong with that.

Think before some of you speak. Yeah, she is past her prime, but 30 years, 300 million units + and legendary status she can NEVER be pressed about Gaga!

And that's from a fan of both, stan of neither that just observes music!
"Take A Bow"... Rihanna's ONLY ballad to go #1 on the Hot 100 (also topped the R&B Chart)... Great deed for her most epic ballad!!!

It seems that the most interesting thing about the MDNA era is the 'Madonna dissing GaGa' moments. THIS is reductive tbqfh :P

Agreed, it's really a bad move. I mean OK Madonna incorporates more and more current hits in her own live performances nowadays but this was unecessary and makes her look like a sad person. She's really going in the wrong direction, I hope she wakes up soon.

Yes but the thing is that when Britney and Xtina hapenned Madonna was still doing her own thing, was still a chart force as big as Britney and Xtina were in their prime and Britney and Xtina's music was not a copy of Madonna's (Britney was far more Janet than Madonna-influenced and Max Martin productions were all over the place then and Xtina's stuff had absolutely nothing in common with Madonna's catalogue really ). The comparisons were simply on the level of young females being ultra successful, could they last as much as Madonna?

With Gaga is different. She is copying Madonna with every song she makes and claims to be original thus erasing Madonna's legacy from the map. And all that at a time when Madonna is no longer the chart force she once was and worst, is going through a mid-life crisis in every respect. The best way forward would be for her to simply ignore Gaga and do her own thing but I am afraid she's not about to do it before she inflicts more damage to her legacy than Gaga ever could

madonna's a bi*** and i love her for that. she knows what shes doing and with over 25yrs under her belt she doesnt need to prove anything. serves gaga right for copying her song, if shes gonna copy then at least change the meaning. BTW has the same melody and message just worded differently.

And if you guys find madge doing this pathetic then you guys are seriously behind. she has built a career out of controvery and saying what needs to be said. you guys will deal and accept the queen 8-) or else get the fudge outa here, you came and clicked on this topic what did you expect.

No, she's not doing what she always has. Yes, she was always a lovely b*tch but she had a way to be unpredictable, clever and had a who gives a f*ck attitude. Now really I would like to know whose mind didn't consider the possibility of this hapenning when they saw EY in her setlist? I did consider it but I thought no, she just includes it because it's back in fashion after the BTW cover version (BTW is practically EY with different lyrics) but no, she tries so much to be cool that she has become predictable. She should take a note or two out of Prince's book and continue making music gracefully and stop looking at the charts. She really has nothing more to achieve chart-wise so why bother? Her bet now is to be a hugely successful veteran (that basically means album) and touring artist and I am afraid we are going to start seeing some damage in that department soon

I feel the same way. I am a fan for life, but its just no longer the same. People think that not trying to compete with Katy would mean people want her to be Barbra Streisand, as if it's an either/or situation.

Madonna in her day was the premiere female pop icon, hands down the biggest star in music besides Michael Jackson in that time. She was controversial, but she was also brilliant. Take the controversy away from Like A Prayer and you still have a classic epic pop song. She had star power anyways and would've been huge even without the controversy. Today she's no longer ahead of the pack and setting trends, she's following trends that are dated by the time the album hits shelves. She needs to find her voice again and reclaim her place. She is never going to rule the world like she did in the 80s again, but I don't see why she can't age with the dignity that Springsteen and U2 have... both still are critically acclaimed and sell very well even though neither of them are even trying to recapture the success they had 25 years ago.

She's broadcasting parts of this concert, and she'll probably release a CD/DVD of it too - which she would need GaGa's agreement for, if she wants to make a profit out of it.

I'm sure it's just a publicity stunt for the both of them, and they're both laughing at their fanbases going in on each other.

Without Gaga's consent, she couldn't put that performance on CD/DVD. At first,i thought of it as a cheap move but i though it over and it might be a tongue-in-cheek tribute to Gaga.

And why should Madonna be desperate? She has done it all, she doesn't need to prove herself any longer. Apart from Celine Dion, who else is still internationally relevant? I love Gaga and hope she has a healthy and long career, but to say that she's erasing Madonna's success is just delusional. Artists like MJ and Madonna will often be imitated but never be duplicated.

On a second thought maybe she's saying "She's Not Me" not because of copy thing but as in "leave her alone and let her do her thing"

Maybe this performance won't be done during the show they will film for DVD while she can do it in all other shows. I doubt Gaga would agree to be publicly made fun of, attacked and called out like this. She cares about her credibility as a musician/song writer a lot and this stunt is targeting exactly that.

Expect lot of Gaga hating/fun making posts to follow this comment.
