From PSB OS:

The first single to be released from "Elysium", the new PSB album, is entitled "Winner" and will be given its world premiere next Monday morning, July 2nd, on The Ken Bruce Show on BBC Radio 2 in the UK between 9.30 and 12. Later that day, the track will become available for purchase from iTunes.

On August 6th, the single will be released on CD (with three bonus tracks) and as two digital bundles (including bonus tracks and remixes). Like the rest of the album, "Winner" was produced in Los Angeles by Andrew Dawson and Pet Shop Boys. It has an orchestral arrangement by Joachim Horsley, Andrew Dawson and Ben Leathers.

That's a perfect title for the Olympics. :D Can't wait. By the way, the cover is amazing.

The sample is on amazon.uk.

I didn't listen to that. Fans on official forum say it's a ''intant hit'' and ''a bit cheesy song'' and ''Queen-esque'' and has ''together-we-can-change-the-world'' feeling.

As usual, I'm afraif of final result ;( Don't wanna hear ''cheesy PSB'', don't wanna hear generic mass-pop hit. On the other hand, if you call ''Go West'' or ''I'm With Stupid'' as cheesy as new song...I'll feel better :)

"Invisible" was only a teaser with a video to introduce us to the feel of the album, not a single. "Winner" is in fact a bit cheesy. It is an up-tempo ballad. I'm not used to get a ballad as a lead single from the Pets.

"The Grid" or "The Clock 10/11/12" from their ballet soundtrack "The Most Incredible Thing" is much better IMO. Even the track "The Winner" from the same ballet would also have been a suitable candidate, if re-arranged and with some lyrics added.

 I guess they had to remove it again. Glad I listened 5 times. I liked it a bit more after several plays, but it IS cheesy and they can do so much better.

Pet Shop Boys are over. They destoyed themselves, their own legend. What a shame  :-? :-? I won't listen to new album.

I'm a big PSB fan and I'm not impressed with this or Invicible. I don't think I'll bother with the album either! :-?

The full length has leaked... I swear you can sing "I Get Along" to this and it'd fit perfectly.

The intro and the bridge are nice. The rest is boring. It seems likely they will miss the UK top 15 with this lead single for the first time, unless it gets some Olympic promotion.

Uk lead singles' peak positions
1 West End Girls
1 It's A Sin
7 Domino Dancing
4 So Hard
7 Can You Forgive Her?
7 Before
15 I Don't Know What You Want But I Can't Give It Anymore
14 Home And Dry
8 I'm With Stupid
14 Love Etc
?? Winner

judging from PSB's track record, I wouldn't give up just because this song isn't so great

Yes, lately their non-singles have been far better. Examples: The Way It Used To Be, The Sodom And Gomorrah Show.
When you walked out you did me a favor
It's absolutely clear to me
That love is a bourgeois construct
Just like they said at university

I LOVE Release. It's my 3rd favourite album after Nightlife and Bilingual. However this track is dire, commercialised crap. It is lacklustre and plays up to media expectations this summer. It sounds like a dodgy demo and Neil and Chris are capable of doing so much better.

I shall not be buying the album. I'm not even sure if I'll illegally download it.

It is cheesy, YET, it does not hurt my ears after repeated listens. I like it more than Love Etc. However, don't write the whole era off because of the lame lead single. I still hope there is a perfect reason for this, maybe they made a contract with a sponsor for the Olympic games, who knows, and we will hear this song in every commercial break during the games.

I agree. This would be a perfect Olympics song and hopefully that is taken advantage of
