I enjoy the album but I agree, it could have been anyone singing the tracks and I would have enjoyed it just as much. But how much can she really step up her game? Kelly just screams 'uninspired' and '2nd rate' to me.urbanmusik wrote:This is so unremarkable. Hmm true. She has her great-ish moments (Still In Love..., Work, Can't Nobody etc), but a lot of her material has had a lack of character.Charmbracelet wrote:I enjoy the album but I agree, it could have been anyone singing the tracks and I would have enjoyed it just as much. That's why she is such a disappointment for me. All this potential she has is hardly ever displayed. She's too far in the game to be 'finding herself' or still 'stuck in Beyonce's shadow'.urbanmusik wrote:Hmm true. I think she should stop trying to pander to urban radio with this album, and also pick a sound and stick to it. No more generic R&B with the odd dance track here. Her last album could have easily been by Keri Hilson or half of the aspiring R&B chicks.
Maybe with these sexy slojams has found her way....aaliyahman wrote:That's why she is such a disappointment for me. All this potential she has is hardly ever displayed. I was really meaning from her fans perspective primarily. The sexy slow jams are not the way to go IMO. I think it was pretty much a fluke it did well in the US as after it did, it seemed like Kelly was right back to square 1.Loveguru wrote:The thing is she isn't in Beyonce's shadow because
the Rowland brand is strong enough... the material is the let down. She has a fanbase!
I totally agree with you! She just has to know her zone and execute it well, since she does have a following.aaliyahman wrote:I was really meaning from her fans perspective primarily. For me (although that is the most 'generic seeming' type of music around) she does the dance based songs best. She has a voice which does cater to power dance anthems, I could imagine her just making it a bit more funky i.e. 'Show me Love' etc. She hasn't suited a song better in recent times than When Love Takes over and also What a Feeling.

She does have a fanbase but I'm just wondering if that fanbase is faltering especially as that 'underdog' moniker is fading.

I just don't feel this ' Hey look I'm sexy now' type of vibe she throws in your face on these 'slow jams' its a cringe.
