Michael Jackson's new greatest hits album looked set to become a major hit.The album was off to great start after debuting at no.2 in the UK Album Charts and no.1 on the UK R&B Albums Chart with UK 1st Week Sales of 45,527 copies. The album also debuted at an impressive no.4 in Ireland and no.6 on the European Albums Chart however when the album was released in the USA it debuted at a not so good no.128 with USA 1st Week Sales of 8,003 copies however there are reasons why the album didn't do as well as exspected.

1)The album was released in a week where albums were
selling very low in the USA for example Mariah
Carey was at no.2 on the chart with sales of less
than 90,000 copies.

2)Michael's 2003 greatest hits album had just spent a
few weeks in the USA Top 200 so people would have
already spent money on a Michael Jackson greatest
hits album.

3)The album was a double cd and cost more money to
buy than other cds.

4) The album is Michael's 4th Greatest Hits album to
be released in the last 4 years.

Whatever many newspapers say about the album being a flop I am very pleased with the result especially in the UK where the album went to no.2 and it proves that MJ is still huge outside the USA with the album doing well in countries including Canada.

Please can you post any chart positions and sales of the album!
It's not my fault I'm so popular!!!

No, it doesn´t deserve to do better... Nothing against Mr. Jackson, but his label seems to release a new compilation every year, which is ridiculous, everyone who wants a MJ compilation must have one already, so this one was left only to die-hard fan collectors, why don´t he come up with new material instead of a new collection of classics...

Well, I see that in Ireland the album is up 4-2, which is very interesting to me. Usually the UK and irish charts go more or less in the same direstion so the album can increase sales in it's second week in UK too.

It's lack of success in most major markets is simply down to the huge sales of previous compilations. There have been more MJ compilations in the last twenty years than there have been studio albums- Lazy muppet! There's no reason for the latest one to expect any real chart success when it haS nothing new to offer and deserves it's low placing in the U.S.

What I find incredible is the success he's had in the U.K and Ireland with the latest release, especailly given the chart-topping success of Number 1s'.

Personally, I think such exhaustive re-hashing of 'hits' album will be hurting his catalogue sales of the classic studio albums.

The album does not deserve to do better. He released way to many compilation albums just because he and Sony know that a costly new album with new material will fail. So they are taking the easy route by releasing greatest hits albums every year that include songs like billie jean.

This man has sexual relations with young children. It's just too difficult for the general public to but his records.

What is your problem? You post in every Michael Jackson related topic here. If you think he is such a child molester why don't you ignore threads about him rather than being a pompous ass inciting arguments. Get a life!

The poll asked what I thought about MJ's recent album. It didnt request that we all agree with one another! So if I have a different thought than you do about MJ, deal with it. The child molestation case is a huge part of michael jackson's career, and it's impossible to brush that aside just because it doenst have to do with charts.

for your information, i was always a big fan of his and love his music. But when I talk about his career and sales, at least I am honest and dont put him on a throne. His career is in shambles, and I am just stating my point of view. Let's face it, he's no madonna (who already surpasses him) or mariah, (who will soon surpass him) when it comes to sales, albums, singles, overall icon status, etc.

He sold more than Madonna and Mariah Carey combined in 2004 so I think it's clear to say that he's teh biggest popstar around.Although this year both Mariah and Madonna have new albums out so the results will be different of course.Michael is also way ahead of Whitney aswell and just behind Jnat although she had a new studio album out and that counts for most of her sales!

The poll didn't ask if you hate Michael Jackson and view him as a pedophile to be overwhelmingly idiotic and crude. I don't get people like you who whine about being disgusted someone yet you are always drawn like a moth to a flame to topics discussing that person you claim you find so offensive. I think you are either a bitter ex-fan or mental case to constantly repeat the same dribble over and over when you could just do the sensible thing and IGNORE threads about the said subject. Don't worry I'm done replying to you, clearly there are nutcases as yourself out there who thrive off of bashing people. If I'm not a fan of someone I don't bother replying to anything about them one way or the other.
