Abs
|
Released: 19th August 2002.
Everyone was shocked to find out Abs would be the first Five member to go solo, as we were all expecting Ritchie, Jay or even Scott to beat him. Even more shocking is that it's a cover of "Uptown Top Ranking". Fortunately it's one of the hottest tunes of the summer. Daring to sample a 70s classic and give it a modern reworking, Abs secures himself the perfect slice of pop/R&B to launch his solo career. A Five fan or not, you should definitely give this a listen - it'll have you hooked, and after a while you won't be able to get it out of your head. Don't expect a No. 1 from him though, he's got a little way to go yet.
Bring back Five, all is forgiven! Five produced a lot of really catchy pop tunes; however, this solo debut from band member Abs is rather dull. He manages to act sexy, but this is meant to be a ballad - and the Five boys don't do good ballads (see "Until The Time Is Through" for proof!) It samples "Uptown Top Rankin'", apparently. One to avoid.
