Madonna

Released: 14th April 2003.
Whatever state the charts may be in, you can always count on Madonna to show the kids how it's done. After all, this is what her music is all about - causing controversy and media hype whilst ensuring the music is unique, fresh and original. "American Life" is in the same territory as "Die Another Day"; her vocals are spot on, and she uses her current trademark of computerized vocal distortion. The lyrics are as clever as ever, and there's even a rap thrown in. With Madonna you always get your money's worth, and this is certainly no exception!
Madonna is the undisputed queen of pop, but this single may cause the bursting of her controversial bubble. "American Life" is nothing more than an overly-produced piece of electro garbage, while the lyrics may well have been written by her daughter Lourdes. They say things come in threes - a failed play, a failed film, and finally a failed single.
