Big Brovaz
|
Released: 5th May 2003.
Imagine one of the hottest new urban talents sampling a song from a classic kids' musical. Now scrap whatever you're imagining, because this is actually one of the most creative and original tracks for some time. How they've managed to pull it off, I have no idea, but they've done it well. The third release from Big Brovaz has all the fun, charisma and appeal of their previous two hits, plus much more. After Jay-Z's use of tracks from "Annie" and "Oliver", and Jermaine Dupri sampling a "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" song, should we expect the So Solid Crew to get their teeth into "Follow The Yellow Brick Road" any time soon?
If you'd asked anyone in the urban world at the start of the year whether they'd be buying a version of an old Julie Andrews song from "The Sound Of Music", they'd probably have laughed. However, that is actually the case here. Big Brovaz have taken old favourite "Favourite Things", and revamped it for a whole new generation. Gone are all the flowers and pretty Sound-of-music-esque things, and in come diamonds, rubies, Bentleys, Gucci dresses and all things bling. This has been huge in the world of airplay, so expect it to be a Top 5 hit if it's lucky - despite being the band's third single.
