Released: 1st November 1999.

Mariah Carey - RainbowThis offering from Mariah, we're told, reflects her emotional year before the release of the album. 'There's a story here', the sleeve explains. Well, if that's true, we can only be left with the assumption that Mariah had a damn good year, because "Rainbow" is a fantastic LP, featuring the upbeat "Heartbreaker", the amazing "After Tonight", the stunning "X-Girlfriend" and the lovely collaboration, "Thank God I Found You", with 98 Degrees and Joe.

Also making appearances on the album are Snoop Dogg, on the great ‘Crybaby’, Da Brat, Missy Elliot & Jay-Z, each on one of the two remixes of the stunning single, ‘Heartbreaker’, and Usher on the slightly less brilliant ‘How Much’. Her breathless voice is at its best and she has little need to worry about the sudden explosion of female teen singers, because few even begin to match the quality shown on this album.
