Vanessa Carlton - Be Not NobodyThe young singer songwriter Vanessa Carlton has made herself known thanks to the infectious "A Thousand Miles". Her album title, "Be Not Nobody", suggests she wants to be more than just another half-decent singer on the music scene. Does she succeed?

Thankfully, the album is not one of those that have exactly one good track on it, which also happens to be the leading single. Vanessa posseses a very handy skill of crafting both catchy and interesting melodies, dressed in those energy-filled piano arangements that you know from "A Thousand Miles".

"Paradise" is one of the unquestionable highlights, offering a dark yet blindingly sharp sound. I don't know exactly how many notes Vanessa uses to sing the chorus, but the >bouncy effect is quite impressive. Other personal favourites include "Twilight", "Wanted", "Rinse" and the uplifting "Pretty Baby".

My only complaint is that some of the tracks merge into one another a little too much and tracks like "Orinary Day" and "Sway" are not as much fun as the rest of the album.

Vanessa Carlton with her debut album has managed to establish her own style and with such a promising start is surely one to look out for. For now, just hit play and let the piano ride of the year begin!
