Nelly Furtado
|
Released: 12th June 2006.
Nelly Furtado is back with what she calls her "fast and fun" third album. Mostly produced by Timbaland, "Loose" breaks away from folk pop and heads straight for hip-hop.
"Maneater" is a stunning example of that change in direction, and so is its confident follow-up, "Promiscous". "Glow" adds a sparkle or two while "Te Busque" is a successful Spanish-English affair. Other highlights include "Say It Right" and "Do It", a track bound to get you moving.
Only a few songs fail to deliver. The opener, "Afraid", is a non starter, while the hideous "No Hay Igual" would better suit Daddy Yankee. Penned by Chris Martin, "All Good Things" fails to deliver the Coldplay-style magic after a promising start.
It shows that Furtado has furfilled her wish to break free from the singer-songwriter stereotype, stepping forward to become the all-conquering pop superstar.
