The British rockers The Darkness top the shortlist for the Brit Awards 2004, having received four nominations in British Group, British Album, British Rock Act and British Breakthrough Act categories.
This year's awards ceremony will be held at London's Earls Court on 17th February, and other acts likely to pick up a Brit are British singer Dido, chart topper Daniel Bedingfield, pop-rock boyband Busted and Mercury Music Prize-winning hip-hop sensation Dizzee Rascal, all with three nominations each.
Huge sales figures of "Life For Rent" earnt Dido a nomination for British Album, alongside British Single for "White Flag" and British Female Artist. Recently hospitalised Daniel Bedingfield is competing in the British Male category, as well as being up for Pop Act and British Album awards.
On the international front, the very in sync Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake are in the lead, with three nominations each, including Pop Act and Best International Female (Aguilera) and Best International Male (Timberlake). "Stripped" and "Justified" follow the UK album chart pattern and refuse to separate, as both are up for Best International Album award.
2004's brand new category Best British Rock includes nominations for The Darkness, Muse, Feeder, Primal Scream and Stereophonics.
Elsewhere in the list, urban artists Sean Paul, Beyoncé, The Black Eyed Peas and the rocking White Stripes and Kings Of Leon all appear in two categories each.
