  • Eminem :: The "Music To Be Murdered By" Era

    From thedailybeast.com:

Eminem released his latest record, Music to Be Murdered By, without warning on Friday. The new album spans 20 songs, and features production by Dr. Dre, and verses from the late Juice WRLD, as well as Q-Tip, Ed Sheeran, Anderson .Paak, and others. Pitchfork first noted that on “Unaccommodating,” Eminem references his feud with Machine Gun Kelly before saying “bombs away” and referencing the 2017 Manchester terrorist attack that killed 22 people at an Ariana Grande concert. Eminem’s last album, Kamikaze, was also released via surprise release in 2018.
The surprise release was initially supported by a music video for the track Darkness.

NEW RELEASES: EM, HALSEY, MAC START STRONG

The week's top three new releases could combine for three-quarters of a million units in total activity—and it's only the middle of January. Halsey has a ticket bundle, and all three will benefit from D2C. The Mac Miller pop-up store on 1/17 in L.A. drew serious traffic, with a line stretching for blocks.

      Eminem (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) 300-325k total activity, 110-125k album
      Halsey (Capitol) 185-210k, 140-160k album
      Mac Miller (Warner) 175-200k, 50-75k

Little to report for iTunes and streaming services - still number 1 across both in over 50 countries! Also number 1 on Amazon music.

Eminem has added limited edition vinyl, CD and cassette editions of Music to Be Murdered By to his online store (and I am so annoyed that I haven’t got any spare cash at the moment damn you Christmas for crippling my bank and damn you January for being a drag). They look great!

In other news, lots of new videos 'overtaking' Darkness on views, but still almost 3 million more on YouTube for Eminem in the last 24 hours.

            Some midweek updates!

            From www.officialcharts.com:

Eminem and The Courteeners are locked in battle for this week's UK Number 1 album, with just 2,000 chart sales separating the two in the latest Official Chart Update.

The Courteeners are currently in the lead at Number 1 with their sixth studio album and first in four years More. Again. Forever., followed by Eminem's Music To Be Murdered By at Number 2. The Courtneers have never reached the top spot before but have charted inside the Top 10 with all of their previous albums.

Eminem’s surprise-released eleventh album could extend his chart record, should it climb to the top spot by Friday (Jan 24). Eminem has the most consecutive Number 1 albums in UK chart history, landing ten chart-topping albums in a row, most recently with 2018's Kamikaze.

Three songs from Eminem’s album are set to enter this week’s Official Singles Chart Top 40: Godzilla ft. Juice Wrld is battling Stormzy’s Own It for Number 1, while Ed Sheeran collaboration Those Kinda Nights and Darkness are proving popular.
            UK Albums Chart Update:

2 (NEW) MUSIC TO BE MURDERED BY EMINEM

            UK Singles Chart Update:

2 (NEW) GODZILLA - EMINEM FT JUICE WRLD
9 (NEW) THOSE KINDA NIGHTS - EMINEM FT ED SHEERAN
            15 (NEW) DARKNESS - EMINEM

            From forbes.com:

Music to Be Murdered By is projected to move between 300,000 and 325,000 album-equivalent units, HITS Daily Double reports. If the album does bow atop the Billboard 200, it will make Eminem the first artist to earn 10 consecutive No. 1 debuts in U.S. history. The Detroit rapper is currently tied with Kanye West, who earned his ninth consecutive No. 1 debut last year with Jesus Is King.

Approximately 110,000-125,000 units of Eminem’s new album are expected to come from traditional sales, while the rest will come from streams and individual track downloads. Music to Be Murdered By occupied seven spots on the U.S. Spotify Top 20 on Friday, and his Juice WRLD collaboration “Godzilla” earned the top debut in the U.S. (2.573 million streams, No. 2 overall) and globally (5.773 million, No. 4).
In other news, the album is still at number 1 on both iTunes and streaming services in 34 and 49 countries respectively. As of this moment no promotion has been announced but continued discussion throughout social media and news outlets surrounding his lyrical content may continue to fuel interest in the album long enough to maintain number 1 debuts and continued high sales over the following weeks.

ARIA Charts: Weekly ARIA Chartifacts - ARIA Chartifacts 27th of January 2020

                                  Albums Chartifacts:
The eleventh studio album for Eminem called "Music to Be Murdered by" was a surprise release last Friday and this week it claims the No.1 spot on the ARIA Albums Chart, becoming his eleventh chart-topping album here (9 studios, 1 soundtrack and 1 best of).

"Music to Be Murdered by" is the 866th No.1 Album in Australia (1965 to 2020), the 716th for ARIA (1983 to 2020), the 505th to debut at No.1 (1976 to 2020), the third No.1 album of 2020 and the 33rd for the record label Interscope, whose last was only last week for Selena Gomez, meaning that this is the first time since 2015 that two Interscope artists have taken over from each other, previously it occurred in March 2015 for Madonna (Rebel Heart, 1 week on 16-March, 2015) which was taken over the following week by the album "To Pimp a Butterfly" for Kendrick Lamar (1 week on 23-March, 2015), while another Interscope act in The Weeknd is the No.1 singles act this week. The album enters at No.1 in both England (where he has both No.1's for single and album) and New Zealand.

This is now the eleventh No.1 album for Eminem and his ninth for a studio album since he first topped the charts for a single week on March 5th, 2001 with "The Marshall Mathers LP". Eminem is now the equal third artist with the 'Most No.1 Albums' alongside the eleven notched up by U2 and Madonna (ahead of him is Jimmy Barnes with 12 and The Beatles with 14), while his tally of weeks at No.1 now rises to 32 in total, tying him at equal twelfth on the listing for 'Accumulated Weeks at No.1: Albums' alongside Delta Goodrem and one week behind the recent 33rd week racked up by Michael Buble (Dec 2019) and two weeks away from matching the 34 weeks for Jimmy Barnes.

This is the tenth album with the word 'Music' in its title to hit the No.1 spot here (the last was a 'Glee: The Music' album in 2011), and the first for a 'Murdered' or even a 'Murder' at the ARIA Albums summit, with the previous high-charted murder being a No.2 placing for the Incubus set "A Crow Left of the Murder" (Feb., 2004). The new No.1 album also becomes the 307th by an American artist (male, female, solo, duo or group) and the 247th by a Solo Male Artist (local or overseas).

Music to Be Murdered By was surprise-released on Jan. 17 via Shady/Aftermath/Interscope Records. It’s Eminem’s first album since another surprise release, Kamikaze, which dropped in 2018 and bowed at No. 1.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Feb. 1-dated chart (where Music to Be Murdered By debuts at No. 1) will be posted in full on Billboard's websites on Jan. 28.

Of Music to Be Murdered By’s total starting sum of 279,000 units, 154,000 are in SEA units, 117,000 are in album sales, and 8,000 are in TEA units. The 154,000 SEA sum equates to 217.6 million on-demand streams for the album’s tracks. That’s the largest streaming week for an album in four months (even counting just audio streams alone), since Post Malone‘s Hollywood’s Bleeding tallied 220.9 million clicks in its second week of release (chart dated Sept. 28, 2019).

Here’s a look at some of the amazing feats Eminem achieves with his latest No. 1:

One of Only Six Acts With 10 or More No. 1 Albums: Eminem is just the sixth act with at least 10 No. 1 albums. He joins The Beatles (with a record 19), Jay-Z (14), Bruce Springsteen (11), Barbra Streisand (11) and Elvis Presley (10).

Record-Extending 10th No. 1 Debut in a Row: Eminem breaks out of a tie with Kanye West for the most No. 1 debuts in a row on the Billboard 200, as Music to Be Murdered By clocks his 10th consecutive chart-topping arrival. West most recently notched his ninth straight No. 1 debut with Jesus Is King in 2019.

Record-Extending 10th Consecutive No. 1: For both Eminem and West, all of their No. 1s have been consecutive, and all also debuted at No. 1. In turn, Eminem also shakes off a tie with West for the most No. 1 albums in a row.

For both artists, they have only missed No. 1 once in their entire charting history: Eminem with his first entry, 1999’s The Slim Shady LP, and West with his first effort, 2004’s The College Dropout. Both albums debuted and peaked at No. 2.
