Singer/songwriter Hozier with his debut full-length self-titled album debuts at No. 2. Buoyed by an Oct. 11 appearance as the musical guest on NBC's Saturday Night Live, the act's album sold 58,000 copies in its first week -- slightly larger than what industry forecasters thought the album might sell. (Last week, sources suggested it might sell just over 50,000.)
It actually reminds me of Helene Fischer's Atemlos' chart run in Germany...
OMG. I knew the song was big here, but that chart run is ridiculous. Even the biggest hits are lucky to spend 4-5 weeks in the top 10 here (Happy and Rather Be excluded).
It's a shame the IRMA don't certify singles. I'm sure that would be one of the highest-certified songs of the last 15 years. It would be interesting to see what the actual sales are like.
@Avahogree: In the UK, it's a big thing if you make it to the million with your single. Ireland has about a tenth of the UK's population and a similar market, so I assume that Take Me To Church sold 100-150k copies there.
Je n'ai qu'une philosophie: Être acceptée comme je suis. Malgré tout ce qu'on me dit, je reste le poing levé.
